I am buying a house and it had not long ago back door glass broken as nobody lived there for a while. Is it exception or the rule that empty houses are often robbed? Would you recommend to install a home safety system? I mean it is good to have one, but DO I REALLY HAVE TO HAVE IT THERE?

I'm prewiring my home. Aside from using Cat 5e for voice & data, can it be used to connect various alarm devices such as magnetic contacts, PIR sensors, low voltage siren & strobe, keypad, to the main control panel? If I'm not mistaken, magetic contacts use #22 AWG pair of white wires. Longest run is around 25 meters.

What's the range of "low voltage" you can transmit using UTP, let us say 30 meters max? I wish to use it also to power 9v smoke alarms and DC-powered security cameras. The intent is to have centralized management of various systems and provide UPS backup to power.

If I put in a home security system for my Mother who is 77 yrs of age. What kind of a discount would she recieve from her homeowners ins. Can you suggest the best & most affordable home security system & the easiest to use because this new tech stuff is not easy for our Seniors…

I am a small business owner, a major new client told me that they met with their internal Info Sys security team looking for me to provide them feedback on 1) how their data is handled once received, how data is stored, and how data is purged

The client will be sending me either email spreadsheets or data on CD's not sure yet. What can I report to them so I will look knowlegable on the quesitons they want to know. It is just me in the company, so i will keep the data on my hard drive, reivew it and when done with it purge it - is there some document I can send them that tells them this, in a more professional way? Or, is there something else I should be telling them?

ok well like 2 days ago it said that some part of it expired and today it said im not protected some parts like the internet security are still there but im and email and computer files are said to not be protected is it because part of the security service expired?

lately firefox has been taking a very long time to log in on myspace. almost 5 minutes. on the status bar it says waiting for secure.myspace.com. when i completely close zone alarm, it only takes less than 2 seconds to log in and show the home page. i have no clue what to change in zone alarm, so any ideas and help would be appreciated!

I have 2005 ford escape and every once in awhile the car alarm will go off on its own and lock and unlock by itself. I know its not my keyless remote because I havent taken out the batteries in it and the alarm will still go off. PLEASE HELP. I Dont want the ford company to look at it because its going to cost 90 dollars just for them to look at it!

We recently bought a home with an alarm system installed. There is no central monitoring and we never engage the alarm (we don't even know how). This morning, I got tired of that silly beeping noise each time I entered through the garage and I asked my wife about disconnecting it… we agreed that there is no reason to keep it. I pulled the panel's cover off and unscrewed it from the wall. I found four wires going into the back of the panel of different colors. Is disengaging my home alarm as easy as cutting these four wires?

Or do I have to use a regular dvr recorder? Do I have to subscrib to Tivo to use the machine as a DRV recorder?

I have Norton Protection Center, which came free for 15 months with my new desktop, and AT&T Security Suite, with came with my DSL connection, both running in my computer. I trust Norton more, but unfortunately sometimes this free version does not come on for a while when I turn on the computer. Is it OK to run both as backups for each other?

The batteries are not very old.
OBVIOUSLY it can beep if the batteries are dieing. Does it beep for any other reason? Sometimes it beeps pretty rapidly (a couple times per minute) and sometimes it beeps perhaps once a day. Whats its deal?
The alarm is in my bedroom, nowhere near the kitchen. It never responds to lit candles (even several at a time).

Summary of damage:
Toilet overflowed for over an hour in upstairs bthm.(2 floor w/ unfin/bsmnt)
soaked 2 bthms flrs, hallway 2 bedroom crpts
ceiling buckling, hardwood floors buckling, thermostat malfunction, fire alarm soaked, subfloors soaked, basement ceiling soaked some seepage into laundry room.

I bought the filter that you are suppose to hook up to the alarm panel so the the DSL and the alarm that connects to my phone line can filter out from one another. When I connect the filter my phone line goes dead. What am I doing wrong? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
