Older cell phones used analog signals which could be intercepted with the same type of scanner used to listen to police/fire broadcasts.
Now days, almost all cell phones use an encrypted digital signal, which cannot be monitored by the average person.
It is still possible to intercept cell phone signals, but you need advanced technical knowledge and specialized equipment; or need to have a relationship with someone who works in a technical capacity at the cellular company that provides your service.
Since it is highly unlikely that your ex has either, you are probably safe.
I suppose he could with enough money. Illegal however. Nothing he found out could be used against you in any legal proceeding.
yes especially if hes in close proximity, the device they use is called a scanner and since cell phone calls are not hard wired they can be picked up, have you ever seen a friend with kids who have those baby monitors, they also pick up cell phone calls. If you want your calls private, use hard wired phones, ie phones with phone line plug ins in you domain.
Can he, yes. Is it Legal? HELL NO! Check with your local police or DA's office if you have proof or even a reasonable suspicion. You also might consider hiring your own investigator. Many of them specialize in de bugging.
The technology makes it possible and it is simple to do with something as simple as a programmable police scanner. However, it is illegal to eavesdrop on a private conversation. It may be difficult to prove though.
Scanners don't cost a lot, and they are capable of listening in on any radio transmitted calls. Some criminals buy scanners and try to listen in on police communications in order to be one step ahead of the law. Any cell phone or cordless phone can be listened in on. Scanners aren't the only way to eavesdrop. You ever see these boom mics that they use in making movies or the "press" uses them for special events? Someone could even plant a "bug" in your house without you knowing it. Radio receivers can pick up communications other than the regular radio broadcasts. It all depends on the frequency being transmitted and the equipment used to receive. Cameras–these days are teeny tiny little things that could be hidden in a tie tac and not to mention the satellites. There's so many ways to "listen in" or "watch".
