I went to a work Christmas party the other day and there was a coworker there who is now single. We ended up flirting and he invited me back to his place. It ended up getting too late for him to drive me home so I stayed the night.
I woke up in the morning to his 2 year old son walking into the bedroom to see me and his dad in his bed, and a livid ex, who apparently had been knocking on the front door for a while. She apparently had to be to work and she heard the alarm clock in his room going off, and since the door was unlocked and he was expecting to have their son dropped off she walked in thinking he was just tired from staying out too late the night before.
She was embarrassed and upset because she wasn’t expecting me to be there since I guess they talked about how they weren’t going to have people they were dating around their son. So she wasn’t expecting me to be there. And she was upset that her ex knew that she was going to be there at 7:30 to drop off their son and it was nearly 8:00 and he was still passed out in bed, not answering the door.
I’m not sure how to take this. I wonder if he’s an irresponsible guy if he’s taking women back to his place and staying up until nearly 4:00 in the morning when he knows his son is going to be dropped off at 7:30.
I was mortified by the situation.
Thoughts?
He is a rescued dog. Previous owners in thier late 70’s. Health has stabilized. Loyal, strong, robust and happy here w/ 11 yr old Golden. Very protective of home and family. Very Verbose!Walking and exercise he is fine. Listens well. But see’s another dog, alarm type barking begins. He looks to me for command or direction. Is this inate? Is it managable and correctable at age 10? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
I’m a first time home buyer and I’m just trying to get my facts straight. I’ve already met with my bank and they presented us with a package of information that I don’t quite understand yet. I’m waiting on a time when my husband can be available for a second meeting.
From what I’ve gathered I need to prepare to pay the following:
- utilities (unless partially included in condo fees)
- condo fees (if applicable)
- land transfer tax
- property taxes
- homeowners insurance
- lawyers fees
I’ve been warned to watch out for:
- whether or not things are included in the price such as appliances, lighting fixtures, window coverings, even the hot water tank…
- there is a previously installed alarm system in which the contract would be taken over
- there are tenants
- do-it-yourself renovations completed by the homeowner
- the reserve funds (or emergency funds) the property has (if townhouse or condos)
What am I missing? And how does the realtor get paid?
Thanks!
We are looking for a relatively inexpensive security camera for our house - not an "alarm system" just more of a camera to find out who has been at our house (someone has been at our house when we are not there; messing with landscaping, etc.). We don’t know much at all about cameras or what we need - probably something that could record while we were gone (it always happens when we are not there)… any advice would be great. Thanks!
I should add that the camera will be located on the front porch looking out at our driveway.
I want to go out tonight to a local fair. It is right down the street from me. My mom doesnt want me going to it at all because she doesnt like to the people running it this year.ive gone every year and i want to go tonight to see this boy i like and to hang with friends. She might be home though by the time by friend comes to get me. So i need a full proof plan that will help me sneak out, I have one of those bar things on my window that its like an alarm. and dont tell me oh dont do it you’ll get caught, im going to go out either way.
she used to organize the fair but she doesnt anymore and i really wanna go, also she checks on me sometimes in the middle of the night, what do i do?
do they really work, and what are the best kinds, which ones worked best for you?
I have ALWAYS been a very heavy sleeper & I adjusted 2 alram clocks. It’s very annoying, it becomes exspensive replacing them. I have tried several different types & they ALL work for a short period of time & then I adjust & I sleep straight through, I don’t wake up hit snooze & fall back out just straight sleep through it. Currently I have 2 clocks with 3 alrams and multiple functions including the ability to play cd’s, I can set all 3 alarms & all 5 on my phone ( all of these alrams at 1 point woke me up just fine)& sleep though them my H often comes home to find me completly out with all the alarms going full blast. Is there an alarm clock for me or am I doomed to replace them every few mths?
We recently moved into a foreclosure home that has a Honeywell alarm system. The model number is lynxr/lynxr2y/lynxren. We have tried everything to figure out what the code might be, the people who lived here did not leave any information on the system. I would like to get it up and running, sometimes it beeps and I would like to know if there is a default code, and how to make it work. Right not it is flashing fire and fault. Thanks for all of your help.
I bought a regular cookie cutter 3bed-2bath-2car 1590 sq. ft. house brand new in December 2008 for 5,000 with nearly NO upgrades, being a handy person that can do them myself for cheaper. My question is: approximately how much value will I have added to my house through home improvements? So far I’ve:
1. painted the walls (they were white) and put up blinds/curtains,
2. put in ceiling fixtures,
3. put in a pool,
4. put in a river rock border around the backyard (was a dirt lot) with a stone paver barrier,
5. put in flowering bushes to cover the pool equipment,
6. put in grass,
7. put in stone pavers on one side of the pool as a deck,
8. added a 4′ invisible pool fence (removable),
9. added a French door from the master bedroom straight out to the pool deck,
10. put up shelving in the garage,
11. put child safety latches on cabinets (removable),
12. put child safety alarm on back door (removable),
13. put anti-theft locks on exterior doors,
14. upgraded all kitchen appliances
and that’s about it, I’ve been a busy bee the last 10 months.
I’ve been staying in the burbs for a bit now and i’ve noticed that suburbanites act with a military-like precision. Like any good member of the armed forces, i see them wearing neatly pressed uniforms, eating prepared meals, coming and going in large groups at the same times everyday, constantly looking for signs of status or rank on each-other. they all do their pt at the same time, biking trails on weekends in their matching pt uniforms, leaving for deployments on holidays, ect.. well, you get the picture.
anyway, not having been received by the welcome-wagon, i’m wondering when i need to arive home from the bar so as not to look out of sorts and raise a scandal. Sitting on the porch, i’ve noticed that on most fridays and saturdays cars pile in to the complex at exactly 12 and 1am. Presumably the ‘partiers?’ When i go out, should i set an alarm for one of those times so as not to be drummed out of this tidy purgatory for missing my ques?
i ask because i’m not familiar with this type of environment, where people act in unison and call 1am a late night. if i roll in at 3 or 4 should i be expecting cops to stop me just for being out, or maybe neighbors making noise complaints over the sounds of footsteps on concrete?
Since I moved into this new home the Brinks Alarm system keeps on making this annoyin beep every morning. I have to keep on pressing cancel. Is there a way to just stop the beeping for good?
what will you do to keep me awake?
poll: alarm clock or naturally wake up?
aww Thanks Tim,you’re such a good friend….umm ow,not THAT rough…
i want to start my own home security company how do i start?
what do i need?
in a few years. this wont be my main job.
Insurance? etc
Hello! I have recently been playing with applescript and have grown to love it! I currently have morning script set which activates at my morning wake up time - It starts an increasing alarm sound, stops, greets me, tells me the time and date, tells me the morning weather, and then begins to read off my calendar events for the day. When it is finished it launches my morning CNN podcast.
I would like to take this to the next level though and set up some home automation, and have the lights turn on, and possibly my drapes pulled back.
Can anyone tell me if there is any hardware and software that is compatible with applescript? Thank you for any information that can be provided.
Future Plans - have a motion detector go off when I enter my apartment, and activate apple script greeting me and turn on the lights.
I have some old style black powder real muskets hanging on the wall of a vacation home for decor. They’re screwed on to the wall with brackets because I don’t want people pulling them down and playing with them cos they’re real.
There is no one in the house for few weeks, or months at a time. I’m wondering if this is a higher risk for people to want to steal, or not really? I’m wondering if I should just leave it or take it down.
The house is not completely isolated its in somewhat of a resort community with a few thousand people. There is an alarm system in the house, also a cleaning service cleans the place every couple of weeks.
I was thinking of also getting some cowboy guns or maybe WW2 guns to put up on the wall also, but I’m not sure.
The firing mechanism in the guns are disabled, but they are still real guns. But good point SCHMOOZIN.

Have had some history of some transient bats coming through house. None have tested positive for rabies. Am I just overly concerned about this issue? After I heard sound I swatted near my ear did not feel anything touch me. Also I turned on bedroom lights and did not see any presence of a bat. Mainly I am just wondering if this high pitch ringing type sound similar to a fire alarm is the type of sound that could have come from any bat. Most likely the type of bat for this area in a home would be little or big brown bat. Thanks.
I am looking for the GE Smart Home Personal Keychain Security Alarm. Can anyone tell me if it is still on circuitcity.com? If it isn’t can someone give me a couple of dependable sites like amazon or best buy where simlar pocket alarms can be found?
