Home Alarm Systems Archives

I recently purchased this car from a private party and upon getting it home I realized that the remotes on the key ring are not typical lock/unlock. I have 2 that just have a number 1 and a number 2 button on each. Also, I noticed a small red light on by the shifter the next day that has been on 24/7 ever since. I have tried contacting the seller with no luck. Could anyone tell me is this setup an alarm? I have tried pushing the buttons and nothing happens so wondering if there is a sequence or something or is this the standard gear for this car? The reason I ask is the car has recently became very hard to start since the red light has come on.

My boyfriend has a 1999 Porsche Carrera. The alarm went off for about twenty minutes the other day; we were not home, and the neighbor told us about it. We do not know if someone tried to break into the car or not. Now the car will not start, and the alarm light (which usually only flashes while the car is locked) is permanently on. Has anyone had a similar problem? Does anybody know how to turn the alarm system off temporarily? Boyfriend was able to start the car once, but it stalled and will not start again. Also, jump-starting did not work. The battery is charged, so that should not be the problem either.
He does not have the Owner’s Manual, so could you explain in a bit more detail about the Block System? We are not sure if someone tried to break into it or not, so are there other possible reasons the Block System could have activated? Is towing it to the dealership the only option he has? Thank you for your answer!

We lost the alarm key thing a couple years ago so we disconnected the wires to the alarm sounder. We went to start the Jeep and it started to turn over, then would not turn over at all. When this happened, the alarm seemed activated all of a sudden. The alarm light AND the 4-way flashers started going off, like the alarm was going off. We got it home and replaced the starter and that was NOT the problem. Then we replaced the ignition switch. That was NOT the problem either. We have no idea what to do now. Please help! Thank you.

I run a in home daycare and it is required that when 1 fire alarm goes off that they all do. Is this a hard task to accomplish or a simple fix? All my alarms are already hard wired they just dony all go off at once. Any advice will i have to hire someone to fix this?

A little info: I want to run away from home because my dad treats me like shit, but I have an alarm system that talks really effing loud when you turn it off. I need to know some way to get out without setting it off. A little more info: I’ve heard of the window sensor trick, but my room is on the second floor. Still more info: DO NOT TELL ME THAT I SHOULDN’T RUN AWAY!!!

Are the steps of the Obama regime to follow in Europe’s foot steps not alarming to the voters that voted for "change"?

I had a home alarm installed. My kids were home when it happened but I dont think the home invader knew that as my car was gone. I think it was my ex based on some comments he made when I told him, but I still feel like whomever it was is coming back!

i got home turned on the tv and there was a guy talking which blocked the channels audio and then it ended with an alarm consider i live in So. Cal.

I have tested the fire/smoke alarms and CO detectors and neither of them sound anything like this alarm. It only goes off about once or twice a week and at complete random times but always seems to be from 11pm to 6am. Never seems to be while I am awake. The alarm only lasts for about 4 seconds so I can’t figure out what alarm it is. It is extremely loud so I know it is not just some random noise from a device like stereo, computer, toy, etc.

I do not have a security system or sump pump alarm and I can’t think of what else it could be.

Any ideas of how to track what it is or other things that it may be and please remember this is as loud as a fire or CO monitor alarm but sounds extremely different and lasts only 3-4 seconds.
I have heard the fire alarm and CO detectors for low battery and that is usually a beep or chirp and does it every minute. There is also usually a red light that blinks each minute as well. This sound is absolutely not a low battery warning. We have owned the house for 6 years and this only started to happen about 2 months ago so asking the previous owners would not be an option. It is also not a phone as it is much too loud. I do like the idea of voice activated recording and may have to try that.

We have 2 cats that have access to the inside of the house when we are not home through our cat doors. We want to install an alarm, hubby is handy so should be able to install himself. Can anyway tell me where to buy a good alarm in Victoria that won’t be set off by our cats.

month, mostly with 9 volt batteries, is there anything that can be done with month old batteries instead of throwing them away?

If phone lines and alarm wires were running into a house through a little metal pipe, then it would be a lot harder for a might-be burglar or other invader to cut those lines while trying to stop their victim(s) from calling the police or trying to stop their victims’ alarm systems from calling that dispatcher. That should be painfully obvious to the people installing the lines. Why don’t they do it that way, then?

It doesn’t matter who owns the wiring. What matters is who installs them, and how they do it. Who pays for the lines has nothing to do with whether or not the phone company could start off by installing the lines via conduit. The same with the alarm company.

And don’t be the guy who says something like, "Maybe if the burglar can’t cut your phone lines, he’ll just kill you instead," since that wouldn’t make sense, because then I would respond with this:

"Well, what if you’re NOT HOME for the burglar to kill? The alarm could still call the company if the wires were in a conduit that was hard to cut. And even then, sometimes burglars cut phone and/or alarm lines to make it easier for them TO come in and STILL try to kill you. But if they can’t cut the phone line first, then you might still get a 911 call out in time."

So, now, when you answer, consider the potential pitfalls I just steered you around. Okay?

Will you come back periodically to see if I have any follow-up for your answers, and then RErespond with follow-up to my follow-ups, please? Thanks, if so.
Okay, Hydroace and DT Warwick,

My real name’s Mike.

Actually, I’m surprised that they would just bury the wire without putting it in a pipe, anyway, just because of the tilling, etc. But I think it’s more than 2 inches deep where my parents live ( a lot of tilling got done there).

Isn’t that cable–from the box or pole–thicker than just the line that runs around in your house, and seriously, wouldn’t it be more than 2 inches deep (and if not, why not)?
Yeah, I’m not really talking about pipe all the way from the house to the phone box or pole (although that would be ideal). I just meant one little pipe that goes from a few feet below the surface of the ground (so a thief would have to dig around in the ground to find the bottom where the cable comes out), or from the top of the roof, into the house’s point of entry with an elbow that gets sealed in (at least in the case of the phone line). Why would one little piece of pipe just a few or several feet long (not many yards way out to the street) cost so "too much" for the phone company to decide to afford when they install it–just the one straight pipe a few feet or so long?
Yeah, Hydro, I’m talking about where the cable was buried at the lower depth because it was the original installation.

Why not just take it up a metal pipe from that depth where it meets the house, up to the box, and then lock the box? That little bit of pipe wouldn’t cost much, and it would slow a potential thief or other attacker down considerably, wouldn’t it?

I bought liquor from the grocery and when I got home the electric alarm was still on the top of the bottle. What will happen if I take it off?

I have now a LDR resistor, a laser, a buzzer and a few resistor.
The problem is: if a laser is on, the buzzer beeps, but when it is off, nothing happen.

What else do I need for a working system?

Where can I find a great deal online for GE 50246 Smart Home Door Stop Alarm

Security system came with home, need a master reset or something to be able to program. got manual, but no codes. Factory setting are messed up. Please help.

My alarm had been going off mysteriously & it took me forever to figure out that the front door was the culprit. It would seem that when the weather heats up in the afternoon (the door is facing west), that for some reason the trip on that door becomes overly sensitive. I can tell because barely jiggling the door makes the alarm go off. I can only think it’s either the bright sun light or heat causing it, but why and how to fix?
