wug, Nearly 2 years ago I had someone try to break into my condo. It was late at night and the lights were off, but I wasn’t asleep yet. I heard a noise at the back door. I ran into the den and flipped on the outside lights. It startled the burgler and I saw him high tail it out of there. (I assume it was a him). I then called a couple burglar alarm service in my area and they all gave installation and monitoring quotes. I recommend you call a home securty installer to get your questions answered. http://www.homesecuritysystemratings.com Almost every alarm companies offer a free installation special, so ask about that too.
http://www.sportsmansguide.com is a great place to get all sorts of guy things…but they had a great deal on security cameras a short time ago… it was 2 infrared color cameras and a receiver, so you could place them wherever you want and view the cameras eye on a TV monitor elsewhere, they are wireless and I’ve used them before, they also have audio and are very sensitive…The one I got even has a motion sensor so it beeps inside my house when something triggers the motion sensor to draw your attention to the monitor…
For a cheap monitor, go to a thrift store and buy an old TV/VCR combo for about 20 bucks if that and there ya go…
The 2 cameras and receiver was 140.00 + shipping, and once you have a membership everything in the catalog is even cheaper… The membership is worth it…
I buy most all my shoes through them and I wear some expensive shoes, and I get them for 50% or more off…
I’ve shopped with them for years, and have never been disappointed…Good Luck
iof i were you i would get some 40 dollar webcams then put them where you want and get loke a hundred feet of usb cable and hook it up to your pc and leave your pc running
well, there’s no use for a security camera without a digital video recorder. the camera will only cost about $60-$80 for a half decent one, but the dvr will cost a few hundred. you can also find an old vcr and use tapes.
Check out http://www.honeywellmonitoring.com if you have any interest in a home security system. It is the ultimate do-it-yourself security website. You can buy Honeywell products, find specs, manuals, installation videos, device sounds, and they are one of the few websites that give full warranties with the products. They also offer the best alarm system monitoring for only $15 per month and if you’re stuck in a contract with a company paying the usual $30 to $40 per month, they will help you get out of the contract early so you can start saving hundreds per year.
