Is there a way that an electronics dummy like me can build some sort of a homemade device to jam any type of surveillance equipment that might be planted in my house? I know I'm not paranoid or otherwise, crazy, here's why…

2-yrs ago, the teenagers next door&some of their friends broke into our house&ransacked the place, room by room from garage to crawl space while we were at work (the police found out who it was because of some evidence).

Ever since then, we could be sitting in the house with all of our doors&windows closed&carrying on a normal conversation and, for example, one of us tells the other about doing something&go to do it, a few minutes later, this neighbor will be outside smirking at us (there could be no way they'd otherwise know what was going on).

Is there any way of looking for planted devices? I don't have much money to spend on this type of thing& I'm open to suggestions on what to do. We have a watch dog&alarm system. We DON'T LIKE guns! Any ideas?
When the burglary happened, we had a Black Lab/German Shepherd (who was stabbed in the eye and had to be put to sleep because of surgery complications)and an Akita/German Shepherd (who was poisoned with drug-tainted lunch meat and died a short time afterwards), but now, we have another Black Lab.

I heard that the new Norton Internet Security 2009 is good and won’t slow down your computer like the old system.

Is this true?

I want to know from people who have used it.

What is the point of having a home security alarm system, all a thief would have to do is cut the outside telephone line and than when it triggers the alarm company would not get notified, and no police would respond.

I've had my 5 year old desktop secured with antivirus, spyware, firewall, adware, etc. I just purchased my first laptop & since I'm now wireless, my paranoia has come up. Aside from the usual antivirus/spyware/firewall protection, do I need to get something with "wifi security", "bi-directional firewall", and bluetooth protection(‘bluesnarfing’ and ‘bluejacking’ can allow attackers using easily available software to hack into data held on the laptops, or use the machine as a conduit for other activities)? With all these different security programs I'm starting to wonder if they're really necessary. I'm running vista ultimate & IE7 (which have protection & encryption), Norton Internet Security, keep my file sharing "off", & I'll be installing Windows defender and Yahoo's antispyware. Is this enough to keep my laptop data safe in a public wifi area or do I also have to get more security like the one's I mentioned above? My apologies for the long post & gratitude to those who took the time.

I washed our new bakeware and set out to start baking now that it would be easier with the silicone stuff. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but the muffins stuck to the muffin pan, the banana bread came out okay, but the bloody pie & square pan set off our smoke alarms!
I had the oven set to 400 degrees F, so I don't think it was too high of temp., but when they started smoking, they had only been in the oven for 5-7 minutes!
cooks brand set from JCPenney

My home was almost broken into, and now I'm worried all the time while i' m at work. So please suggest something cause I've never had to choose home security before.

i got the 30 day trial of Kaspersky AntiVIrus 2009 and i scanned and removed the threats but the phrase Your computer security is at risk.fix it now is always on top of the page of Kaspersky ? Anyone could answer this or anyone using Kaspersky ???thx

I came across this code you type in on the Google search engine that enables you to view live security cameras. The security cameras are hooked to a network, but you have to click on an IP address to view that camera. I was wondering if anyone has heard of this, and if I can get into trouble doing this? What are the consequences? If the code is made available to the public, why would it be illegal?

I need to get a home security system put in. Actually we have one, it’s just not hooked up. It’s from a previous owner.

Which one do you like, and how much does it run you a month?

Protection One
Brinks
ADT

What others are out there that you know of and the cost? Thank you for your help. :-)

Wasn't sure what catagory to put this question in. So if I put it in the wrong place, sorry.

Hi, I’m a novice computer engineer working in Japan.

Can someone explain to me why information security management is becoming such a big issue these days?
I understand the necessity of protecting corporate electronic data from unauthorized access, but is that so difficult?

(1) build a safe network
(2) update software often
(3) make security guidelines. educate staff so that they follow them.

These measures seems simple and easy.
If so, why are companies spending millions of dollars on security products and on security experts?

i use kaspersky internet security and i wonder how about kaspersky anti virus. The way to update latest version of kaspersky. Thanks!

i was using my mp3 player and all of a sudden it stops playing and some words come on the screen saying Flash error! please backup the data and format the player…..please someone tell me how to fix it please

to make it turn on

I just purchased my house and it already had the system installed. I called Brinks, but they won't help me unless I purchase monitoring.
I don't want monitoring.

There are multiple computers on a network, however they're all directly connected to the router. Basically there the Internet->Modem->Router->Direct connections to multiple computers. I can see the multiple computers via the DHCP table on the router (192.168.1.1), and I know for sure if one computer is running some server software (Apache for example), then the other computers can access it just fine by typing in the internal IP address (192.168.1.x), and I'm pretty sure port forwarding works fine. Most computers run Windows XP, however the computer that has the ton of data and the computer that will get the ton of data both run XP. And I don't want to set up a home network, I just need a direct connection. I'm thinking there's possibly some server software where when someone connects to it, they can get the data. Either way, what should I do to transfer the (at least, probably much more) 2gb of data? I can't burn cd/dvd's. The network is small and secure, so security is not an issue.

My teacher disabled his anti-virus. He got several exp extension viruses (don't know what they are either). someone told me that because he didn't have a router he was more susceptible to them. please help me understand.

My car alarm started going off randomly about every 5 minutes. I started the car and let it run for about 10 minutes, then I thought that solved the problem. However, it just started going off again. Does anyone know how to disable it?

What is the Data Protection Act?
