Please help with malfunctioning car alarm and bells!?
Suddenly my car alarm has begun to go on when the car is off — in the middle of the night, or anytime! Likewise the inside left-front "door open" bell and light go on when I’m driving even though the door is shut tight and locked! What’s going on? How can I fix it? This is driving us (and our neighbors!) bonkers!
p.s. It’s a 2001 VW Jetta.
p.p.s. No warning lights go on.
p.p.s. Our mechanic hasn’t figured it out yet, either. (Now he wants to tear apart the door and the entire electrical system.)

Sounds like a loose battery connection as far as the alarm, i own a 97 jetta and I know that they are very touchy. The door may just need the switch replaced the rubber boots on them tear easily and the switch can get misaligned and not ground when the door is closed. just look down at the door frame near the bottom and if you can see it push it and if the light and la cucaracha go away you know what you need.
you could have a possible malfunctioning hood or trunk switch, which may not set a light or a shorted wiring harness.
