Question about Home security systems?
If you have one how do you like it? I am thinking of having ADT install a home security system in my home. Do they work well. When the alarm goes off is it loud? Do the police come right away? Is it still worth it even though my closest police department is about 6 miles from my home? Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated.

I had one installed in my house when I bought it 2 1/2 years ago. I have Brinks, but I know people who have ADT. The systems are basically the same. I love having it for the peace of mind.
They work very well, but it depends on how many sensors you have installed. There are motion sensors, door/window sensors, fire sensors, and glass-break sensors. For it to work well, you need to be sure that all vulnerable parts of your house are covered by some sort of sensor.
When the alarm goes off, it is loud enough for the neighborhood to hear. The system then calls the alarm company (Brinks, ADT, etc) and they call your home to check if the alarm was an accident. If it is warranted, or you don’t pick up the phone, they dispatch the police then.
There are also “panic” buttons to immediately call for police, fire, etc.
The distance to the police station isn’t the point, in my opinion - you are still more protected with it than without it.
