I currently have a basic security system with ADT. I am looking into getting video surveillance added on. Does anybody have this video surveillance package? If so, can you give me a short breakdown of how it works and I definitely am curious on the pricing of it. I just wanted to get a camera in back and in front of my place, nothing inside. A few years back, I ran with some very bad company. I have had empty threats made upon me and I am just worried. The basic system isn’t something that makes me feel very safe. I already am in the process of getting my foid card and such…I really want information on video security costs. ADT doesn’t place prices on their site…I would even be up to switching security providers if another company has a better security system. I appreciate your help in advance. Thanks!

I have an ADT system installed here that I never use; can’t afford the monthly fee and the witch I bought the house from never left me any info about it as promised. It must be ten years old; I’ve been here six. I am having my sliding glass doors replaced, and there are sensors on it. I’m supposed to have the sensors removed, but I’m wondering — is there a point? System must be outmoded, can’t afford to have ADT come here to do that on top of all the other expense. How is it hooked up? Can the installers just dispose of the old doors with the sensor on it without causing a problem? Thank you.

My neighborhood recently been having lot of car and home burglaries, I’m thinking of getting a alarm system for my house but can’t decide on what’s the best alarm system or company to get, I’m deciding on either Brinks, ADT or Smith security, I’ve never heard of Smith but its alot more affordable but I don’t know if its as good, please help, I have a young child at home and scared living without an alarm system!

My house got recently broken into. They took my new flat screen tv and my ps3, I was upset to say the least lol. So it made me want to have some sort of security system in place.

How My house was broken into:
I came home and noticed my fron door was open.I thought i left my door unlocked and the wind blew it open. Then i noticed that the glass on my door was broken. I have a really dumb door with a major security flaw.It is a big wooden door with about 12 small glass panes in the door itself with 4 on each side running vertically. They broke one of the panes near the lock and stuck there hand in and unlocked the door.
I live with my mom and she is the house owner. She dosent feel to atiment or too serious about makeing the house more secure.I say this because she dosent want to fix the main flaw of our security here at the house which would be the big door withabout 12 acess points to break to gain acess to the lock.
My house is set up as to where I have an inside porch. So that means you walk down the block,go up my 10 foot sidewalk to enter my indoor front porch which is fully visible to the street. My Porch door is also a wooddoor with a big pane of glass which has this very sturdy lock.I think this would of maybe prevented it because i doubt there going to break a big peice of glass in full view of the street and other people house. But they came onto the indoor porch because the front front door was unlocked then they came to the big wood door with all those glass panes, broke a pain closest to the lock and walked upstiars and took my ps3 and flastscreeen and i assume drove off.
So this is why im asking my question which is should i go through a company like ADT,Broadview, simplx a company that offers that type of service where the house is monitored at there central location then alert you and the proper emergency service if they detect a problem or should i just build my own system and try and make the house more secure.

1. Should i go with one of those companies? the only benifit is that if i dont secure my doors properly and im not home and the neighbors dont hear it and call that i know the police will be there.

2. What products can i buy to make my house more secure?

3.For my wooden front door what can i do to make that secure? i heard of deadbolts where you need a key to lock/unlock on both sides, are those real? I want that so if they do break the glass they still cant get in.

4.Are cameras really that benificial? They only really help when in plain view, which i think isint that good to begin with cept detur. Or that there only good when your stuff is already gone which i think is to late.Where can i buy cameras that only motion activated?

4.Are there any good websites that are about home security that offeer cheap good products? how about any forums for prevention and security product reviews

5.What kind of locks are there and what benifits do they provide? Are there any chain locks which you can unlock from the outside?

6.should i buy a new door handle with a lock and maybe some sort of other lock like a deadbolt for my bedroom door? I ask this because i dont have anything else worth stealing except for my room and worse comes tow orse they break in but i want something to stop or slow them down alot if they actually get in.

7.Where can i buy glass laminate so i can make all the glass entry points in my house unbreakable. I think its called security film and its a laminate that makes it bullet proof or shatter proof so they cant just break the glass and unlock the door..I searched ebay,is there any other sites that offer this type of product?

8.What can i do to make my front porch door more secure? Im goin to start locking this door more often since its out in the open and i think that will detur most. Maybe put security fil over it just incase. Same with my back door and my front wooden door. What can i do to make those more secure?

9.What decides how good a lock is? is it the width or depth of the lock/deadbolt?

Well, it happened. . . someone almost broke into my home this morning. Fortunately I was home and scared the critter off. Three people in my block have gotten home security systems lately. Actually, I wish I could move! But, I think I’ll be here for awhile. So, I’m looking for a home security system. ADT is popular in my area. Do you have any to recommend?

I live in an exurb area, and I’m often away from my house for extended periods while on business. Recently, there was a break in at my house. My home security system scared off the thieves before they stole anything. But I’m wondering what I can do to deter thieves from breaking in in the first place. I’d like to put up signs warning about my home security, but I don’t know if that will just encourage thieves to try to deactivate the alarms before they break in. I can also install lights that come on at night, though I’m not sure if that will help. Anyone have some good ideas?
Thanks for the all the good tips. My home security company offers a wireless service, because, if my phone line gets cut, the normal home security doesn’t work anymore. Is the wireless service worth getting? I suppose most thieves aren’t smart or patient enough to go cut my phone line. But for the ones that know what they’re doing, is it easy for them to defeat security systems like ADT?

Most of us now relied on our cell phone more than the house phone like old days. Eventually the house phone just sit at home to collect dust. Basically I do not wish to wasted a month on something I will no longer use. In fact, I do want to install a home security system that doesn’t required traditional phone line. Yet still be able to monitor the house 24/7 at their headquarter. Will notify the police, fire dep, or ambulance.
Beside ADT or Brinks. Are there any Wireless Home security system out there is trustworthy? I saw uControl online but never heard or know anyone use it before.

So please if anyone out there could help .. let me know!

Thank you so much!!!

I was going to go with ADT or something similar, but I am not trying to accrue a monthly bill at this moment in time. I know that some monitoring is quite inexpensive, but please don’t give me any of these choices. I probably will go that route in the future….just not right now.

I have checked out X10 and some other ones, particularly one found on this site: http://www.efindoutthetruth.com/Alarms.htm. I was looking at the Wireless Home & Office Alarm System Package #1. I know with these systems there are no monitoring; however I can program it to call law enforcement or household numbers should there be a problem. Can someone recommend the best options available and why you think it is one of the best options. Also, please add if there are any cons BESIDES monitoring or anything else already mentioned. Thanks in advance.

Our neighborhood in Kansas City, MO is normally a safe neighborhood, but some reason burglaries have been on a peak these past two months, with 4 of my close neighbors being robbed, and one of them I witnessed. I need to get a Security system, but places like ADT and Brinks require 3 years contracts, which in the end turn into ALOT of money! Is there any local sercurity company that you recommend, or have had experiences with?? Which company have you found to be the most affordable. Thanks-

Our alarm sounds off every morning at 8:30am. During the day we have the dog and sometimes a family member sit in so we don’t turn it on during the weekdays when we are away at work. It’s when we wake up on the weekends typically around 8:30-40am it sounds off. We’ve checked the house and no signs of break in. It went off at the same time when we were on vacation, neighbor was there as he checks our home when we’re away and both he and the police found nothing when it went off at that time.

Any ideas? All we could think of is one of the sensors on a french doors that we put in ourselves isn’t reaching properly and it just so happens that’s where the sun hits when it riess - so not sure if it’s a heat thing and the wood expands (just guessing here).

When we called ADT they just tell us which zone so it could be either those doors or a diff set of windows, we’ve checked them and no signs of break in!

Anyone had this issue?
* where the sun rises (sorry for the typos).

Hey, I just recently got a side job selling home alarm systems for ADT and I really have no experiance in sales. Are there any general rules, guidlines or tricks used in the sales business that would help me out?

Any information would be great!
thanks

ADT, Brinks or Slomin’s Shield?

ADT?
Broadview?

any others?

Thanks!

We are looking for a home security system and don’t know whats the best. My first guess was ADT but after reading internet reviews on it,Im not too sure. I just want a good affordable service that will work when it needs to.

I live outside of Cincinnati and I am shopping for a home security system. I have been reading consumer reports and reviews about ADT and Protect America. Protect America would be more affordable with equipment costs, but I want to make sure that whatever system I get actually works. Anyone have any suggestions on these or other companies?

Greetings,
Is there a website that has a list of the Cheapest Home security installation and monitoring systems?
I am looking for a company that installs a wireless alarm system and monitors for around .95 a month like Bulldog.
I am located in Arizona and every site I go to is rigged for ADT, Brinks or Broadview.
I am specifically looking for a company that will install and monitor under /month.

So ive been looking for alarms to add to my home, but when i call they ask me for my information like where i live. and i do not want to give that out i just want prices. any ways online didn’t really answer my question so im here. so my question is how much does it cost and what does it cover?. (companies like adt brinks and any others) ive seen that most cover 2-3 doors or windows! what in the world i have 18! how much would it cost to protect all 18? would that be in the installation fee or would it also increase my monthly bill. the reason i want to cover everything is i live in a not so nice place and i have been burglarized before. i just peace of mind. another thing, around how much is the installation fee? the more windows and doors i have the higher the price it will be? what did you pay for and how many windows and doors did you protect ? thank you ahead of time

this is a long shot but we rent a house that has an adt installed ge simon 3 system. our landlord does not know the codes; the people he bought the home from moved away and did not disclose them. is it possible to override it and enter our own codes?
