Hello! I have recently been playing with applescript and have grown to love it! I currently have morning script set which activates at my morning wake up time - It starts an increasing alarm sound, stops, greets me, tells me the time and date, tells me the morning weather, and then begins to read off my calendar events for the day. When it is finished it launches my morning CNN podcast.

I would like to take this to the next level though and set up some home automation, and have the lights turn on, and possibly my drapes pulled back.

Can anyone tell me if there is any hardware and software that is compatible with applescript? Thank you for any information that can be provided.

Future Plans - have a motion detector go off when I enter my apartment, and activate apple script greeting me and turn on the lights.

Not ID theft in the conventional sense, since my net worth is below 0.

Some of my neighbors have been entering my apartment with a key and have stolen at least 50 percent of all my papers. Apart from government tax forms, pay stubs and bills, there are also photographs and one illustration from a book I’d kept since I was 6, that I was looking to frame and display. I’m 50 now, and no longer have it. That probably upsets me most of all.

I’m not worried about identity theft from a credit point of view, but I find it very disturbing that someone would be profiling me in this way. Why would anyone do this?

Even a governing body would produce a warrant and come when I’m home?

I know they want to find anything to get me out so they can give this apt. to their own people… let me say at this point I am very quiet and keep to myself and don’t bother anyone. Yet just for putting my dishes away the other day, the police were called!

I spend my life online… who could I be bothering? I’m into photography and graphic arts, it doesn’t get any more interesting than that!

When I discovered what was going on, which amounts to a continuous exchange of documents back and forth up and down the street, I became terrified to leave my apt. For the last few months, I have only been going out twice a month when I absolutely have to, and come right back within a couple of hours. Even in that short time, they were still coming in. I also believe there is some kind of monitoring going on in here.

I’ve since had an alarm installed, there’s an extra expense I didn’t need, as I am currently unemployed. And, to tell you the truth, I still don’t really feel secure.

Everyone thinks they’re James Bond these days.

I am located in Montreal, Canada. If anyone knows where I can get a free bug sweep, I’d really appreciate it.

I want to sue for harassment, but feel I have to wait until I am formally confronted with something, because the proof I have is not enough yet.

There are too many of them who are in it together, against just me, although I have told everyone I know what is going on and that if some strange thing happens to me, where to look first.

If anyone has any advice… please.

This morning I woke up to the sound of keys turning in my door lock. Then I heard doors opening in my house and footsteps, but by the time I got out of my room I heard the entrance door closing. Then I saw that the lock was broken in two. I notified the police, of course. I just never thought that this could happen to me. I live in an apartment at the 3rd floor in a 6 story building. The entrance door is made of thick wood, and only has one key lock, no other locks. No alarm, no camera. I have a bad feeling that the burglars might return again in a few days. How can I make my home safe from burglars? Please give me all the tips you can think of. Right now I’m trying to convince my parents to buy a metal door with several locks and alarm, but my dad seems carefree and only wants to buy an extra lock rather than change the door. I think it would be worth it though. I’m thinking of buying a pepper spray as well.
Actually, they didn’t use a copy key to break it. They must have used a big instrument because the lock was pulled out of the door and broken in the middle.
opinionatedmedic: I totally agree with you, but try convincing my parents of that lol. They’ve never let me keep a dog in our flat, and believe me I’ve brought puppies here at least 3 times…

The alarm is much to sensitive and I’ve had the truck for 2 days and i have already came out of my apartment complex only to find a police officer calling a tow truck.
please help
thanks,
Kelly

I was thinking to make like a mini dancefloor in the apartment which would require a fog machine. However, there are smoke detectors near the place I want it to be.
So if I put a fog or smoke machine ( I don’t know which one is correct ) in the room, do you think it would start the alarm. I think the machine is producing vapor and not smoke so it shouldn’t, but who knows….

First of all so this makes sense you need to know this, I live in an apartment complex! Me and 2 of my friends were walking back home and we were making fun and laughing at this boy because he’s bisexual and tried to rape a boy and stuff like that. Well the boy used to pretend he pulled the fire alarm but he really didn’t, so my friend imitated him or whatever and just put a tiny touch on the fire alarm PULL HERE panel thing and like 4 seconds later the alarm goes off. We all ran so fast like crazy, we hid in the stairwell, than we came back out and pretended that we didn’t know what was happening and that we just got there. We just waited out there just standing in the balcony or whatever and then like 10 minutes later we hear a firetruck and an ambulance on their way here. We keep calm and than we see like 5 firemen on the bottom floor, so we call the complex security and tell them that it was this boy that might have pulled the fire alarm, so they come to my friend’s apartment and ask him questions and they get all the information they need to find the kid who "did it" and to punish him for what he "did." So than we go inside my friend’s apartment and have a meeting and we all agree to not tell anyone that knows us about that. So we all just sit on my friend’s porch and than we see the FBI on the first and third floors, we were on the third floor and we knew they were FBI because they had their jackets radio comminication thingy and their hat and their guns or whatever. We got scared that they might find out it was us that did the whole thing and we will get in trouble so we just kept calm. Then me and my other friend go on our ways back home to rest. We are all worried about that they might find out it was my friend that did it and we will all get in trouble for lieing to all the emergency services people. What might happen to the boy that "did it" if they do believe that he did it? He is only 13 and we are all 13, what if they find out it was us that did it, will we like get in a lot of trouble for doing that or what? What can we do? I am really scared, I have never done anything this bad or ever lied to emergency services. Me and my other friend are good kids except for my third friend. I am not nameing no one because you might know us or report us. Please tell me what to do.

Well here’s how it goes, and I’ll start from the beginning to give the most detail.

I came home from my classes and boy was I tired.. I hadn’t go much sleep the past two nights and they have been kind of weird. Let me explain quickly why they were weird. The first night my alarm was set for 6:00 am, and its digital. I woke up at EXACTLY 3:00 am. I saw 2:59 turn to 3:00 the second I woke up. No reason, I just awoke at that time. Now the next night I set my alarm for 6:15 since I needed to wake up a little bit later, and that night I woke up at 3:15 am and for no apparent reason.

Anyways, I got home from my classes and took a little nap, from about 4:00 to 7:00. And I thought crap I shouldnt have slept so long. This night I kept my alarm at 6:15 am. and I confirmed it with my girlfriend before she left the apartment. I locked the door, and I was the only one in there this whole week.

I tried to go to sleep around midnight but I just could not. I was awake and alert for each passing moment. My mind was fully awake but my eyes and body were exhausted, though I hadn’t done much.

I think I dozed in and out of a sleep (possibly because of my predisposition to sleep apnea. It seems to run in my family but mine isnt anywhere near bad) I finally opened my eyes at 3:06 and decided I was going to just stop thinking and focus on nothing to help myself go to sleep. Low and behold I apparently fell asleep.

The next morning I expected to be awoken by my alarm at 6:15 but I didn’t wake up until 6:29, and it was just my body that woke up. I was wide awake and felt no exhaustion despite what I believed would happen the night before. I noticed my alarm was still set even though it didn’t go off, and I hadn’t changed it at all from the morning before and it went off the past two mornings. I checked it and it was set for 6:55. This immediately puzzled me, and I figured I could have been sleep walking or something.

I posed my professor this question in class, and he’s my psychology professor. Of course though he just had to be a raving luncatic over his Catholicism and suggests I’m being haunted by a demon/ghost and its trying to mess up my life by sabotaging me…. Well I respect this man as a teacher so I am giving him the benefit of the doubt, but I’d like to know your perspective views on this, and please back up your opinions with some sort of evidence.

I’m willing to be open-minded towards this religious perspective but I need some idea of why I would be harboring a paranormal entity.
I like the logic you guys have for the situation. And I just want to state this with the talk of stress coming into it, I wasn’t stressed about anything. I played with a Ouija board and it was unnerving afterwards, considering I played with like 3 people whom I trust, but certainly not stressed, and if anything playing with that thing was more of a test for the other side.

Of course if I told my professor this he’d probably call me an exorcist. So Im going to delete this detail after I get answers.

A couple times when I’ve come home things have seemed off. I keep losing things. My apartment is pretty small and I don’t have a lot of stuff, so I am able to check through everything I own fairly easily. I wouldn’t think that somebody had been in my apartment just because of losing things because it’s possible I’ve lost them outside of my apartment, but I’m losing a lot of stuff lately. Also, a several months ago I lost my wallet with a set of keys attached. This morning I noticed it was rather cold in my apartment even though I had the heat on pretty high. Turns out my window wasn’t locked. When its not locked, there is a gap and air comes through. The last time I opened my window was due to setting of the smoke alarms. I know I locked my window then. I’m sure I would have noticed the cold air coming in before now if I hadn’t.

So anyways, I’m just wondering if there is a way to tell if I’m going crazy or if somebody is coming in.

I cannot for the life of me wake up at a decent hour. I am very accustomed to stating up late and sleeping in but I recently started my new job (I work 3:30 till 11:00 p.m.) and I have difficulty going to sleep when I get home and waking up when I want to. I want to go t o sleep at 1 a.m. so I can get 8 hours of sleep and be ready to wake up at 9 a.m. This never happens. I come home from work around 11:30 and I’m full of energy. I pop 2 sleeping pills and I straighten up my apartment, feed my cat, call me friends and mom, wash my face, start watching TV. The pills (over the counter) seem to kick in but they never give me that full I-can’t-keep-my-eyes-open effect. Finally around 3 I get so pissed that I’m 2 hours off schedule that I go to bed….and lay there for about 45 min to an hour. I end up waking up around 12:30. My alarm will start going off at 9 and I will push snooze until 12!! I think the pills make me really drowsey also and I have no energy when I wake to get things done!!
One of the reasons I wanted to wake up early is to work out (I have a tredmil in my apartment) but I read somewhere else that exercising at night makes you stay awake longer! Plus I don’t want to go to sleep covered in sweat! (taking a shower would really wake me up and it would take even longer!) Cant affort a ’sleep specialist’

Steven F HA!! I used a public computer!

Well he came to see me twice in my apartment. We are not close at all. His grandmother and my aunt are close friends but since both of them are in their senior yrs and are ill - the two of us (the grandson and I) communicate thru text messages and to check how his grandma is and how my aunt is doing. 1st time he came to my place was to sell me insurance and at the same time to tell me about his life story then proceeded to tell me if I needed anything he’ll be more than happy to help even if it was just to talk. 2nd time he came over was to ask me how I was and then he proceeded to tell me more about his life, the way he struggled with it and how he handled everything. He’s very friendly and being too open that it’s alarming - alarming bec he’s got a wife and kids and that 2nd time he visited me was after he got out from work and his visit lasted ’til 10pm. Am I just being paranoid?
I just remembered his wife works the graveyard shift while he works during the day time. He also mentioned that he is more of a risk taker while his wife is the opposite. The 1st time he told me he was coming to see me I told him I could meet him at the mall then he said he’d just go straight to my apartment. If he asks to visit the 3rd time I’ll tell him to meet me at the mall or somewhere where it won’t be just the two of us.

but the water pipe busted in my apartment and the water is leaking on it do this mean there is carbon menoxide in my house
and i smell gas

My car was broken into a week ago and I lost about 900$ of merchandise, Somehow my cars alarm didnt seem to go off. It is possible I could sleep though it but even my neighbors and their dogs didnt hear anything and I live in an apartment complex with our cars parked right out front so its unlikely it went off.

My car only has a factory alarm and its a 98. it goes off everytime i test it. I want to invest in a viper car alarm system, but I also want to invest in a new video surveillance system. They both cost the same but I can only afford one for now. What do you think is the smarter of the two to purchase first and most convienent to have?

Just for the record, Horizon also tested my alarm and claims the only way the alarm didnt go off if I set it is if the door didnt close, and I have been getting forgetful so there is a slight chance I could have gone out to my car or something could have happened where I unlocked my doors and didnt relock them.
The only two places I park my car are my place and my work. but honestly I work with my second cousin doing additions and remodeling and my car is parked at his house all day. It is pretty safe there though. Its kind of in the middle of nowhere outside of the city so I dont worry about it at work. Im more worried about at home when Im sleeping between 2-4 AM.

I have two CO alarms in my apartment, for I have a large apartment in NYC. Anyway, the CO alarms keep going off. They’ve been going off continuously for about an hour, and after I shut them off, after five minutes they come back on. As it was going off, the light under "Alarm: Head To Cleam Air" was flashing, but it usually does that, and we’ve brushed it off and lived to the next day. I went to the superintendent of my building with a neighbor because I’m home alone, and he said that it was probably a malfunction, for the CO alarms usually go off in my apartment(s) about once every two weeks. We’ve already had both of them replaced several times due to malfunctions. I was just wondering, though: how can I be sure that the alarms are actually detecting carbon monoxide, and how do I know when it’s just a malfunction, or is there no way to know when one of the two is occuring?

When I was boiling water I forgot about it and it evaporated. I had no idea until the alarm in my apartment went off. I have turned my alarm off, but am I in any danger? I have the windows open but it definitely smells in here.

I’m not sure if I am actually experiencing side effects of CO or if I am just psyching myself out.

I could leave if I feel worse, but should I leave my apartment if I need to monitor the gas?

I posted this question last night and only got one answer. Sorry if my questions are getting on your nerves (haha… I’ve posted a lot since yesterday).

Buying first house. Our price range is getting us a beautiful house that is kind of near the scary, ghetto part of town. We’d like to get some kind of security system even if it is just an annoying siren that would scare away an intruder. The house we’re interested in is 1,057 sq ft all on one floor. There is a front door & a back door that goes out onto the deck. There are 6 windows. Can anyone share their home security stories with me? And if you could tell me how much yours is a month and all, that could be great!

Here’s the sex offender list near the house: http://familywatchdog.us/ShowMap.asp?frm=0 It seems like a lot, but I’m from Baltimore, so it’s not 1/7th as bad as it was up there. it’s the nicest home/area we can afford.
The sex offender thing didn’t work… Oh well.
Only an idiot would have the "nothing bad will ever happen to me attitude". I’m not scared. But on the other hand, I know something could happen (no matter where I live). We live in an apartment now & I’m used to having neighbors who watch out for each other (and who would try to rob an apartment? lol) My parents’ house in a nice, PA suburb was broken into when I was 12 and my college dorm was as well. So the thought is always with me.

I live in an apartment, sometimes i just park the car where i’m not suppose to park it. I press the emergency button( both signals flesh on and off) , i get off and press the remote to lock my car. After a few seconds the alarm goes off…why is that?

Does it mean the ppl who installed my car security alarm did a lousy job, or its suppose to happen????

Help before i take it back.

I am moving to an apartment that is very close to a public park that has city-provided WiFi. I want to make sure that I am protecting myself and any sensitive material on my computer while using this connection. I am using a Mac Book Pro, is there a personal firewall that I could install, or any settings on the mac that I should change to ensure safety?

Someone in my Apartment has been using my Wireless signal. They have even reconfigured my Router once. I have changed the password but I am looking for info on how to secure the wireless signal.

I can’t hardwire my PC to the router because of problems with my Local connection so the description on how to do it in the manual wont work.

I run Vista so if anyone has set up security for a Linksys WRT54G please instruct me or guide me to a site that will help.

The data from Linksys won’t help because I can’t connect to the Router via the cable.

Thank you for any help.
Do I have to configure anything on the PC itself?

I recently started a fire in my apartment. (Candle left alone while I went to the bathroom). I have no insurance. My apartment was not up to fire code. There were no smoke alarms anywhere in the apartment and the only fire extinguisher was one that I bought on my own. Also the water heater is next to the stove. Will any of this transfer any liablitlity to them?
