In all paces it appears (if it’s not named).
2) what online free service for storage/backup data would you recommned?

My Ps3 broke, I sent it into Sony, and I got a refurb back. I already backed up all my data on a flash drive… but I just put the flashdrive in, and tried to restore my backup data, but it isn’t working!? I’m 100 percent sure that the backup data is on the flashdrive.

I did however change the file name, when I backed up the data… does this have anything to do with it not working?

Recently, my sony ericsson W580i died, and I’m going to get an iphone 3GS to replace it. I used Sony Ericsson PC suite to backup my phone before it died, so I was wondering if there was a way to transfer that backup data to my new iphone, along with the data from my sandisk memory stick?

HIthere,

I just recently bought a new HDD for my laptop, as well as an external 700GB samsung HDD.

I am trying to figure out how to

A) transfer my info to my new HDD and
B) how to back up my data, so that if my HDD were to fail, I could just load all the data from the backup onto a new one.

I can’t hookup both, it’s not hooked up like in a normal pc.

Will the windows backup utility thing do this? will it make it so that if my HDD fails, I can use the backup data?

I’m a little consfused, cause i’ve seen many products out there that make an IMAGE of it, does Windows do this too?

Cheers for the help!
PS any free programs you can recommend?

I want to try backing up some files to Mini-DV tapes, but I’m not convinced of its reliability. Would a hard drive be more reliable, stored away after backup?
I am not talking about mini-DVD, rather Mini-DV video tapes - the ones found in most consumer video cameras. I know there is software to backup data over firewire to a tape, but I don’t know if I should trust it for a length of time.

Looking to backup data nightly in the event of a crash. Which network drive is best for automatic nightly backups?

I am trying to backup data that I have on a laptop running Windows 7 home premium. I have a desktop running Windows 7 Ultimate (with an external backup hard drive attached to it), which has the ability to save to a network drive, but the home premium does not appear to have this function. Is there anyway (using windows software) I could backup my data on my Home premium computer to the hard drive on my Ultimate computer over my network or would I have to get 3rd party software?

I need to update my laptop from Windows Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. I need to create a backup data of my laptop because Windows 7 Professional will clean my laptop and wont keep old files. I just need backup files of documents (I don’t know how big they are but they are just school project/papers), spreadsheets, and music. Which should I get a CD or DVD to make a backup? How big do they need to be? Is it possible to put all data in USB (2g)?

Thank you!

I’ve reinstalled my computer with optimum configuration. I decided to burn my ‘backed up’ system with its ASR into one DVD. Does the backup data can be stored together within its ASR?

I want to upgrade my hard drive as its getting crowded. Whats the best way to clone my drive. I have a 160 gb hard drive as well as a 500 gb usb drive I backup data to. I plan on getting a 500 gb drive to replace the old hard drive.

So I have a 500GB external HD with backup data stored on it,I’d like to keep said data.
I need a partition on that HD to create a backup image of my laptop HD onto. The laptop imaging will be roughly 37GB.
1) Is there a way to partition the external HD without wiping current data stored on it?
2) Is there a compelling reason to create a partition on my external HD bigger than 40GB if Im only using said partition for 37GB? of backup imaging?

I got tired of Vista, Wanted to go back to XP pro. I backed up everything to an external usb harddrive. I formatted the internal harddrive and installed windows Xp pro on it. Now i was gonna put the data i backed up back onto xp.. but to my great horror.. the Documents folder i backed up .. all the files in it dissapeared. Which doesnt makes sense because i checked like 10 times if all the data was there. The total size of my backup data folder was intially about 30 gigs. (21 gig was in my Document folder). Now the data folder is showing 8.2 gigs of data.. I played around with it. I clicked on disk cleanup.. and is saw that Under compressed old FILES it shows exactly 21.xxx gigs of data.. THATS MY MISSING DATA.. HOw the hell do I get back those compressed old files.. which i didnt compress

Any help is appreciated.
i didnt use any software. I copied and pasted it over. I dont see the "lost" files.. so how can i UNIZIP/UNRAR them??

I have a gateway laptop - using XP Home - recently exp. blue screen of death and reinstalled the Operating system using the disc provided. There are two options - 1 - to destroy all data files and 2. to backup data files if you have 400 mb of ex. space. I chose #2 - reinstalled my Op. System and would now like to find all my personal files such as pics, school work, word documents, resumes,, etc… but have no clue where to begin. Am I doomed? Please help . Thanks for your time.

Looking for automated backup software - please consider the following!
- Something that can be set on a schedule.
- Incremental backup after full backup - is it possible to eliminate deleted files folders? i.e. you delete a folder on computer, it is removed from backup? That way I don’t restore and find culmination of unused files/folders.
- Replicates info on hard drive versus using a ‘package’ - some software programs package up backup data and can be restored only with same software. I want to be able to open backup folder from any system (if needed) and have access to files/folders.
- Able to select destination, just just F: drive for example, but F:\Notebook Backup.
- efficient, easy to use interface, reliable, etc!

I have tried CMS software (didn’t remove unused/deleted files on subsequent backups), Windows Vista Backup SW/Retrospect SW by EMC (both ‘packaged up’ backup), and Norton 360 Backup would let me select a destination folder - only to USB Backup Drive.

I am doing a research paper on the hypothesis: Women make the majority of the purchases or influence the majority of what is purchased in the household. And I am struggling to find any backup data to support my thesis. Does anyone know where to find statistics, etc online or in books/magazines to help me out?
