I would like to upgrade from Windows Vista to Windows 7. I did a backup on an external hard drive. If I choose to do a clean install, can I import all the files back to their respective locations using the backup data?

I recently bought a MacBook, i only used PC’s before this. I used a 320 gb external hard drive to hold alot of backup data, movies, music, ect on my pc. When i plug the USB into my Mac it doesnt not allow me to modify the external drive. It says the drive cannot be modified, and all the folders have locks on them. Any ideas how to unlock the drive?

What are the options to backup data to CD/DVD from command line interface. Don’t want to use K3B and Nero Linux. Want to backup using "tar" like utility. Please suggest good articles or options. Thanks for helping me! Please post the command if possible.

Hi, recently my son’s old 60gb Launch Day PS3 stopped working. It had a disc stuck inside, so we gave it to a local electrician who advertises PS3 fixing. The blu-ray drive had gone and as the console is out of warranty, we decided we’d rather just buy a brand new PS3 slim.
We told the guy to back up all the accunts and game saves for us, which he did and gave back to us on a recordable CD.
When we had bought and set up the new slim, I put the files onto a USB stick to be inserted and restored on the new console.
It says, however, that there is no backup data.

I have tried:
- Formatting the stick to FAT32
- Testing if the PS3 can recognise the stick with a photo - which it did
- Testing that I can successfully backup and restore the data on the temporary PS3 slim account, which worked.

I then loaded both the old PS3 data and the tempoarary PS3 Slim data onto my computer. I noticed the files and folders went as follows:

OLD PS3 DATA:
[PS3] - [EXPORT] - [PSV] - 6 different .psv files
and
[SAVEDATA] - 29 different folders containing .pfd, .sfo files and .png icons.

PS3 SLIM DATA:
[PS3] - [EXPORT] - [BACKUP] - [201002201412] - 4 .dat files with "archive" in the filename.

I have searched the internet for a good hour now, and it seems no one else has had this issue.
Surely the old PS3 data is compatible with the Slim, right?
Has the old data been backed up wrongfully?
Is there any way of converting this data so it is readable by the Slim?

Thankyou to anyone who can help, a well deserved 10 points can be yours!

(P.S. I also thought of setting both PS3s up and doing a data transfer via an ethernet cable, however the old PS3 won’t power up anymore - just stuck on a red light)

Is there any way for me to burn about 30GB of data from my hard drive to some DVD+RWs I bought without upgrading my CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive to a multi-format CD/DVD drive? I’m thinking in particular of any software on the internet, free or commercial, that would enable me to backup data from my hard drive to some blank DVD+RWs.

Also, would there be any firmware updates for my current CD/DVD player manufacturer that would enable me to do this? Any help is appreciated, but would prefer answerers with some detailed computer knowledge.

My hard drive is a HITACHI DK23FA-60 60GB ATA-IDE interface, with 5,400 RPM and 2.5" length.

My optical drive is a SONY CD-RW CRX830E high speed CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive.

My computer is a laptop notebook pc - HP Pavillion ze4805us

my brother wants me to backup my files and only backup data and not programs.
How about games?

Every time I system update NHL 10 on my PS3 about every 3-4 months, which I must do in order to log in to EA Sports and use the Online Mode, it deletes all the created teams, created players and whatever custom rosters I have made up. How can I update whatever needs updating without it deleting everything? Does the backup data setting work? Can I load everything onto a thumb drive? Any help would be awesome!

Someone please help me i am in a trouble…

I have Western Digital My Book Essential 2.0
external hard drive for data backup.

At the moment i am using Memeo Autobackup, but it works
slowly and along with backup files creates .dcm extention
files which contain information about backed-up file for
periodic syncronization in my opinion.

But in order to boot from external backup drive i will have to
move backup to the top level of external hard drive, because
Memeo Autobackup initially doesn’t create backup there.

And did i mention that Memeo Autobackup has 30-day trial limit?

Additionally i have heard of the following softwares:

1) Cobian Backup
2) SyncToy
3) Acronis True Image

Which of the above softwares will work faster and let me
backup data so i will be able to boot from external hard
drive in case of emergency?
Update: I have found SyncBackSE software, and wondering if it allows me to boot up from external hard drive’s backup plus allows file deletion in destination backup in case the original file in source has been deleted. Kind of syncronization.

I typed in the wrong password 10 times and it reset like i was told it would. But I don’t know how to get to the backup data. Also, if there is no backup data is it just like a new phone? Can I get the info from the sim card or something if I take it in?

actually i want to format my computer and in the mean time i want to save my important files n folders stored in the computer by making a back up cd. so can someone help me out that which kind of cv wil b better to use and if possible some short methods to backup data quickly

I just bought a 320G external hard drive and would like to know what is the best way to organize and backup data to it. What would be the best software to do this with.
Thanks

I have a 3g iphone now and i’m replacing it with the same phone cause it was defective. when i plug this one into itunes it says backing up iphone. well when i get the new iphone will i be able to use the backup data of this iphone on the new iphone?

I need to recover data off of a hard drive from my new Dell. The XPS HD crashed - no boot and seems dead. Press the Fn key + Power button gives huge diagnostics. Diagnostics indicate a read error.

Good news: Dell’s sending me another HD within next 3 business days.
Bad news: The only thing more expensive than a computer is the data that’s on it.

Worse than bad news: While installing many programs and resumes and …. I failed to backup data in a timely manner.

QUESTION:
Does anyone know how I can retrieve my data from the dead HD? Thanks

I’ve developed a site which has MY SQL database. I want to create one automatic task whick backups my sql data every week.

I know there is export facility to backup data. But, I want it to be done automatically every week.

How I can do that? I will appreciate your help and support.

Thanks
Purvi

I have the option of selling a spare pc and i was going to buy an external hard drive for backing up my data..!
I was just thinking of keeping the pc,to backup data onto and it would be there for when,or if my main pc has to be fixed/or upgraded.
Could this be done and if so,how would i connect the 2 pc’s and transfer the backup..!
Got a feeling it is going to be way to complex for me and for simplicity probably best to sell it and get the dedicated external drive..!!!
Thanks for any advice..!!!
