im deciding wether to get an associates degree in it-networking security and taking the Security + certification and Certified Information System Security Professional (CISSP) certifications, plus getting certified with the Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) certification. or getting a bachelors degree is in computer science with a concentration in computer networking and security technology. tell me what you think i should do to get me the best chance of getting a job with a descent salary.
So, I’m trying to decide what colleges I want to apply for. The type of thing I’m interested in doing is to be a computer security specialist. If you need information about it, visit http://www.chubbinstitute.edu/programs/computer-networking-security/info/ I’d like to do that sort of thing, but not too in depth. I’m also interested in creative wring, but found out the hard way that I may not get very far. I’m thinking about going to Fairleigh Dickinson for various reasons, but I’m still undecided.
Should I major in computer science and minor in creative writing or the other way around? Should I totally forget about computer science or forget about creative writing?
Any opinion is helpful. College is confusing, especially when I have to think of what I want to do for my whole life. I’m better at English, and I’m not too good at math, but I enjoy working with computers and protecting them from viruses. Any ideas for me? Help needed. Thanks in advance!
I’m wondering what’s easier to take for my first quarter in college.
The description for Intro to Comp. Science is: An overview of the theory, foundations, and practice of computer science with emphasis on what computers can and cannot do, now and in the future. Topics include algorithms and data, correctness and efficiency of algorithms, hardware, programming languages, limitations of computation, applications, and social issues. No programming skills are required as a prerequisite. Major concepts and open problems in computer science are presented without reliance on sophisticated mathematical tools.
The description for Intro to networking class is: Introduction to the evolution, technological basis, and services of the Internet, with descriptions of its underlying communications structure, routing algorithms, peer-to-peer hierarchy, reliability, and packet switching. Network security, mail, multimedia and data compression issues, HTML, and digital images.
I haven’t had any experience with programming before. Do you think I can handle either one of those classes for my first quarter in college?
Hello, I just turned 18 and I plan on going to college right after I take my GED.
I know I want to choose something in Computer Science. I’m unsure exactly what specialization to go into.
I’m really interested in computer security topics and networking as well as programming. I plan on taking a two year course for CIT sec and moving onto a 4 year university/college.
Now on to my actual question - Is Computer Security right for me? I’m self taught in some advanced topics of networking, I can establish, secure and mantain a small network as well as configuring hardware/software properly. I know C# I’ve just never written any extensive programs in the language. My interests are security topics, networking and I Love to help people. Does this place me in the right position to be taking IT security? I’m just basically looking for opinions on the whole ordeal.
Also, Is there anything you would recommend me to study or know about before I go to college regarding CIT Sec? The proper things to research ETC?
Thanks for reading.
well my degree is in computer science..w/t concentration in security so thats a start but I know i cant just bounce into security w/t an associates or bachelors you need experience to build your way up people tell me, what job would i go for like systems administator or ?
I mean i just go to CC and honestly they havn’t tought me very much its computer science associates degree with a concentration in security…i only know what ive learned at school and thats basically vocab words..understanding of networks, some administration, command line, for linux and windows really when it comes down to it..
do i go to college and study like computer science or go to a special school like ITT tech and get my experience there
Looking for schools to transfer to for my bachelors has been confusing for me considering I dont see many offering this as a Major….what should I do I don't want to be a computer science major…I want to be a computer security major and just focus on that stuff not everything else and just small portion of security aspect?
@ my local community college im a Computer Security Major…they offer Computer Science…but im not that im security. I want to goto 4yr college not many offer majors in computer security and everyone says computer science is what I need to transfer to but wont that mean It will take longer if that wasn;t my major to begin with ?
I'm currently working on my associates degree in computer science, and I'm starting to get interested in security. I wouldn't call myself knowledgeable about programming, so something that takes that into consideration would be best. Also I'm considering joining the Air Force's Cybercommand, or the FBI, any thoughts on that would be great too.
I'm going to be finishing up my associates at my local community college in Computer Security Major but I want to transfer and Cant seem to find any real universities with this as the major . . .its mostly computer science….bla bla bla
what is information technology? what is computer science?what 2 measures that can be used to protect your data?
With an Engineering degree from Sri Lanka, now Im working in software field in my country. Im starting my Masters in Computer science coming year, & plan to specialize in Computer Information Security. Im keen to know, how much this effort will get its demand in abroad like USA or UK once I complete the studies.
I have a degree in computer science and have worked 6 months with the title of "software engineer", but am considering an information-security focus.
