have been using computers for only a year.i really don’t know much but i am very interested in computer security as i have had to deal with click-jacking, cross site request forgery, cross site scripting attempts, etc. i am using firefox with security add-ons that i think help protect my computer, but as far as understanding any of this, i get lost in all the details. can anyone steer me in the right direction. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Shouldnt the US Govt be able to keep these people out? Shouldnt we have the best computer security in the world?
Hey, I just discovered that I have SQL Server installed, I don’t remember installing this and I don’t remember ever clicking on it, but I might have had to install it to get Visual Basic, I’m not sure. Does this run in the background or compromise my computer security in any way? Is it making my computer into a server? I remember requests through my firewall but I think I either approved or rejected them arbitrarily. Is it a security risk? Should I uninstall?

I have McAfee for computer security; under the "Quick Clean" I leave off checking the "Registry Cleaner" because I’m not certain if it will harm my computer. What is your computers registry, and if it’s cleaned what happens when it is "CLEANED"?
A question for 24 fans. What are the computer security levels on used by CTU, when it existed on the TV series 24? And who were in each security level and when?
Hello everyone:
I have a computer security/privacy question. Here is the situation:
My mother takes her laptop to work, where her employees use it, and she also brings it home, where family members use it. Everything related to the computer (internet connection, computer, software) is registered to my mother.
After an employee retired, my mother accessed the employee’s work email account to get information about a project. She found email correspondence between the employee and a reporter for a local newspaper. The employee had commented on one of the reporter’s articles online at the newspaper website and then the employee followed up with an email to the reporter.
The reporter sent a strange email back, calling the employee by my mother’s nickname and saying that the employee was hiding her true identity.
There is nothing in the former employee’s email account or email that mentions my mother. The email account was registered to the former employee; the only thing my mother had to do with the situation is that the employee used her computer to send the email.
We’re all rather concerned that the reporter identified my mother from the employee’s email or website comment and we’re wondering how he could have done this. We’re thinking that he might have been able to track the IP address of the computer from either the website comment or the email and find out who it is registered to.
Can anyone suggest whether/how a website comment or email can be used to trace the owner of a computer? Is this easy to do? We’re wondering if we should forbid employees from using the computer for personal activities because we don’t want to be responsible for things that they’re doing online. We’re also wondering if we should be more careful about posting online, in case anonymity can’t be maintained.
Thanks a lot!!
I am an older technophobe that also unfortunately is paranoid about computer security and so whenever I am not actively using my computer I disconnect the DSL line and the 120 VAC so no one can hack into it. Unfortunately the AVG anti-virus and the Spyware terminator don’t like this since it interferes with "auto-updates" (so I update both manually) but both insist on sending "warnings" that "auto-update is off/disabled". Any way to turn off these warnings ?
I’m trying to look for a job that deals with computer security network. I also would like to look for a job as computer forensic as well. Just seeing if anyone can come up with a better objective sentence than I have…
"To obtain a challenging opportunity as a computer security and/or computer forensic where I can effectively learn and develop skills in my ongoing effect to help grow an organization"

I think I may have a virus. My computer security is not working anymore. All I get is an error message. It says something about the objlib.dll file. I was wondering do I delete the file so my computer works again or is it something I need? Thanks in advance for your help.
What is the best "FREE" computer security for anti-virus, spyware, hacker, etc.
I know there is the average security guard. Then there are bodyguards, electronic surveillance, bounty hunting, law enforcement, goverment work, private investigator, computer security and I am betting there some more I missed. What are they?
I need to upgrade my computer security, but I don’t know the real differences. Which one is better for a home computer?
I have McAfee security suite installed in my laptop which came for free with Cox high speed internet subscription.
I want to know how effective these security suite will be protecting my system. I doubt their efficiency and think there will be a compromise in the computer security, because i already formatted my system twice because of virus infection.
Please advise whether i can continue with it or buy a good suite.
I am interested in learning more about computer security and ‘hacktivism" (NOT hacking in the evil sense!) I know that people in this field are in demand and make a good living, so I’m interested in seeing if it’s something I would be able to do. I have already completed college and don’t have money to take expensive courses, but are there any websites, online tutorials, or books I can purchase to teach myself in this field?
Again, I am NOT asking how to hack myspace, facebook, etc, like the kids here do, I want a legitimate place I can go to learn about computer network security and the like!
Also, I took a few courses on web design in school and it was very difficult for me…. almost like math. Is this similar in the area of difficulty?
