What is this drag and drop thing?

When I go to My documents/my pictures and I try to do anything with my pics, I get a box that comes up and says Data Execution Prevention-microsoft windows
to help protect your computer, windows has closed this program.
Name windows explorer
publisher microsoft corporation.
This is a new problem for me and it’s anoying. Is there anyway to fix this?
I am running windows XP, sp2, and it’s a DELL.
I am using avast virus protection, CCleaner, ad-aware, spybot search & destroy and window washer. I did a defrag and a disc cleanup.
I must say that it worked fine before I went on vacation and when I got home it was doing this. My son used the internet while he was here with the cats. Other than that, i don’t know what is going on.

I have several rewritable DVD’s. The problem is, they’re all in RAW format and I’m trying to format them to FAT format via DOS because I’m on my mothers computer (Windows) and the CD/DVD burner I installed doesn’t have the format option when I right-click. The issue is that when I try formatting via command line, I get an error message saying "Cannot format. This volume is write protect". How can my DVD+RW be write protected? In all the times I’ve burned data to it, I never once tried closing the DVD so it couldn’t be written to again which is the only way I can see it being write protected. The only reason I’m trying this is because my blank DVD’s, for some reason, refuse to read on my system which runs Linux. I’ve run the DVD’s on my system before and they all read just fine, but now they refuse for some unknown reason and I’m thinking that if I reformat them to FAT format then they’ll hopefully start reading again due to the change of format. Any ideas on why I’m getting a write protection error? And yes, I am using an admin account on the computer, incase that matters. And yes, prior to trying a format using DOS, I formatted the DVD’s using a program which I’ve used for a while. The format was successful, but it doesn’t offer a change of format so it doesn’t help my situation. If anyone has any ideas on why I get the error or anyone knows a program that will format a DVD+RW into fat format, your help is greatly appreciated.
Jan,
I downloaded and tried the Ashampoo software, but I don’t see any option for formatting to FAT.

When I right click on my desktop to go into display properties, I get a DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION message that comes up and it just said that to help protect my computer, Windows has closed this program - the name of it was RUN A DLL AS AN APP -

And this has been happening everytime I go in there so I think something is in there - meaning a virus but I have tons of anti virus programs and/or spyware programs - which I only run one at a time and they are not finding anything but I know there is some problem cause computer is running strangely and Norton keeps giving me some weird messages about waiting for it to scan these files like : dap.sat, excal.cab, waol.exe, and some others that would normally seem normal but can’t be since Norton keeps pulling them up for some reason..

Does anyone know how to scan Display Properties for a virus - where can i find it other than on my desktop and does anyone know what the problem(s) may be?? Thanks :o)

Help! My computer (Windows XP) have some problems that it only displays the desktop background when I turn on my computer. I tried to start in safe mode but everything was black with nothing to display.
It looks like the only way left is to recover my computer (Emachines T3990). But I did not backup my personal data (pictures, docs.) on another hard drive. Can any one tell me how to copy data when Windows cannot start?

I can not open any files on my desktop, can not go into start menu to go into control panel, or documents, or even do a search. The windows close and a warning window pops up and says Data execution prevention-microsoft windows. to help protect your computer, windows has closed this program. Also says that it helps protect against damage from viruses and other security threats. Have run a virus scan and it did not find anything. What can the problem be?
I have not downloaded anything. Have done system restore, does not help. Can get into programs through the pull up menu and if it is an icon on the desktop, can not get into the folders on the desktop

I am having a problem. Whenever I start my computer(Windows XP) the first thing that happens is Windows Explorer says it has to close. Once in a while a box appears and says DrWatson must close. What the heck is going on? This didn’t happen until I downloaded an update to ZoneAlarm Security.

I must also state that I had to turn off the Data Execution Prevention settings because they would just be going off.

Is this a quick fix?

When restarting my new laptop (Uniwill 223ei0, Pentium-M760-2.0GHz, WXP Pro) after MU (Microsoft Update), I got a message window: ___________________________________________________________ | Prevention - Microsoft Windows |___________________________________________________________ | | To help protect your computer, Windows has closed this | program. | | Name: Windows Explorer | Publisher: Microsoft Corporation | | | Close Message | | | Prevention helps protect against damage | from viruses and other security threats. | What should I do?

Windows doesn't even tell me which application or component has tried to launch Windows Explorer!

Clicking "What should I do?" opens "Help and Support Center - Understanding Prevention"
which in turn tells me to open "Start - Settings - Control Panel System - Advanced - Performance - Settings - Prevention".

Unfortunately in that DEP tab I have only 2 options

It says, “To help protect your computer, Windows Firewall has detected activity of harmful software.
Do you want to block this software from sending data over the Internet?

Name: Trojan-Spy.Win32.KeyLogger.aa

Description: This Trojan has a keyboard logging function, which is intended to steal information from users of a range of on-line payment systems.
