Is it true that Facebook takes paysafecard payments now? I want to spend some money on Farmville and Mafia Wars and I’d like to avoid using my credit card for this transaction because I don’t trust in FB data security.
I have a few questions, and if you’re a network admin (or have been one), I’d deeply appreciate your time ^_^
I’m 17, and will be a senior this year, and I really wanna go into the field. I love technology, and there’s an ITT tech in a nearby city, where I could get my bachelors in data security. I’m 90% sure this is what I want to do with my life, but would really be grateful for some advice from those that have experience in this field first hand.
I’m a girl, so will I be discriminated against in this field? I read that women aren’t exactly prominent in the field of technology…?
When you were attending college, what kind of part time job did you have?
Once you graduated, how did you get your career off the ground? What kind of opportunities did you have?
What does your job involve on a day to day basis?
And lastly, is the pay really that good? I’ve read that the median income k? I’m not just in this for the money, trust me, I’ve grown up rather poor and would like to make a decent living–one where I wouldn’t have to worry about bills/buying things I may want.
I recently just opened up a store and bought a cash register and a credit card terminal and my friend suggested that I should buy a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard or PCI-DSS. What exactly is this and do I really need it for my business, as I just cut hair. Help please?
Thank you,
Steven

I am an undergraduate student at a major American four-year university, where I study Computer Science in my Senior year. I am preparing to graduate on-time and with a GPA of approximately 3.4. I am highly involved in academia and extra-curricular research. I have a genuine passion for the subject matter, which is not reflected in my still-respectable grades. I am particularly interested in the fields of cryptography and data security, and intend to do research with my professors my senior year, and hopefully publish, which is not something every undergraduate student can say.
I have no intentions of leaving the academic environment yet. I am simply learning too much and "having too much fun", if you will (and I don’t mean partying, either). I have no desire to leave this environment for a stagnant middle-class work-force employment, and thus am preparing to apply to various institutions in pursuit of my Masters.
This is the largest crossroads I have reached in my life, and I intend to utilize it to the fullest.
Looking around me, I am extremely disillusioned with the current American lifestyle. I can look out my window every morning in the middle of rush-hour and see grid-locked cars for as far as the eye can see in every direction, all at a dead stop, and no reasonable public transportation alternatives, thanks to the big oil corporations that seem to run our country. Driving is terrible, dangerous, stressful, and I do not enjoy it. I wish I didn’t even have to own a car, let alone drive it every day, but it seems this society has evolved in such a way that you cannot be perceived as a successful, well-rounded individual without owning a giant gas-guzzler.
I’m watching the giant corporations that have built this country out-source all their labor overseas, leaving our citizens bereft of gainful employment. Then these same businesses declare bankruptcy, abandoning what employees they have left, while their CEO’s pleasantly depart with multi-million dollar personal severances.
I’m watching the average intelligence of the American citizen steadily decline, fed by the constant stream of fear-mongering, FUD, and mindlessly stupid "entertainment" that’s spoon-fed to them by American media.
I’m watching the government slowly and inexorably violate every one of our civil liberties and constitutional freedoms in the name of keeping us safe. I’m watching laws get proposed and passed without objection that would treat us like criminals, criminals that are guilty until proven innocent.
More relevantly, I’m watching my peers, those who are genuinely passionate about things like free and open-source software, freedom of information, and effective transparent security, muscled out of the industry by the posturing and threats of the MPAA and the RIAA. I’m watching copyright law and the DMCA slowly strangulate the innovation and freely-discussed invention that has carried technology this far.
I don’t want to live in, or raise children in, this environment.
I’m done. This game sucks. I want out.
I am looking to utilize this opportunity to apply to earn a Masters degree overseas in another country, and hopefully find a way to stay. I will admit to not being as worldly as I would like, and am seeking guidance as to where to begin my search.
I am seeking a country with a flourishing and prosperous technological industry, with major academic institutions that are very active in Computer Science research and development, and are adequately funded.
I am seeking a country with a robust public transportation system and, I would imagine, the relatively low percentage of car ownership that comes along with that.
I am seeking a country with the copyright law and civil liberties protections that will become more and more relevant to my personal prosperity as I continue in the field of cryptography and mathematics.
I am seeking a country with an accessible and reasonable process by which I may one day hope to become a citizen.
I have previously taken classes in Latin, Spanish, and Japanese, and have found myself with a natural aptitude for learning other languages, although I never persisted in any of them long enough to develop an extensive vocabulary. I am prepared now, however, to seriously learn a second language, whatever language that is.
I am seeking guidance on countries to consider, languages to begin learning, schools to apply to, the process that is necessary to study abroad, skills to acquire that will prove useful, any American or foreign legal processes that are best initiated as soon as possible, and any other relevant recommendations to what is going to be the largest decision of my life.
I bought my laptop (an Acer Aspire 5735 with Windows Vista) a year ago and over the past few months it has been turning itself off. The problem occurs mostly when talking on Skype. My laptop feels warm before going on Skype, but then when I log in and am talking to someone it will go hot and the fan will go really loud and then my computer will either turn itself off (without shutting down; the screen just goes blank) or the fan will quieten but then go loud again before turning off. This happens every time I use Skype now. I can usually talk for about 5 minutes before this happens and when I turn my laptop on again after it will turn itself off again after the fan has sped up. When it turns off either a message pops up saying ‘no microphone detected’, ‘no speaker detected’ or a window pops up from eDSLoader (I think it is data security for Acer) saying something like ‘This illegal function could not be initialized’ and then a load of zero’s and a few letters identifying the function but it never stays on long enough before turning off to take note. This window sometimes also comes up when my fan speeds up when surfing the internet and then my computer will turn off.
I am unsure as to whether it is a trojan that is the problem (if they can even do this) because when I tried to download some work off the internet a warning came up that I had trojans in My Documents and other folders, and when I tried to scan for anything using Norton 360 it spent ages scanning files called Backdoor Rustock A and B and when I researched these found out they were trojans.
I’m not that great with computers and so I would appreciate it if someone could tell me what a possible cause of this problem could be and how I could sort it out and whether the trojans are to blame and how to get rid of these.
Thanks a lot
Thanks for the advice danno? I’ve just ordered one now and will try it out.
I am the lead network administrator for a company that takes credit cards via the web and phone for large Fortune 500 customers. Since a lot of our clients are publicly traded companies or financial institutions they often require us to be PCI compliant (security standard to help prevent credit card fraud). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Payment_Card_Industry_Data_Security_Standard
As it relates to me being a network admin we have to secure our physical network externally as well as our web-based credit card processing sites at an application level. Right now our web sites cannot pass the PCI external scanning requirements. If we or a third party run a test scan against them they fail several key measurements of security due to bad coding, etc. If I tighten down the security to get it to pass the test, it will;, however, the sites wont work for even placing orders! lol
Thats the problem - the IT Director and CIO are under a lot of heat to get us PCI compliant, but honestly they are just really bad managers on the whole and give little communication/direction to their employees. My boss (IT Director) had be tighten down the security just for a 3rd party PCI auditor to do a external scan so it would show passed then we had to immediately turn it off since these tighter security settings take down our sites. Now they are running aroudn the company broadcasting how we are meeting these security standards and telling all of our clients we are PCI compliant, but I know damn well today we are not. Through proper planning, testing, and execution yes we could be and most people could, but as you can see this did not happen.
My big issue with this from a moral standpoint is I was instructed to partake in what I consider to be a dishonest act. In business and sales I am fully aware that the truth sometimes has to be bent to a near breaking point to accquire business, but the way this played out leaves me with a guilty concious. Both people internally and externally are going to be lied to and have been already. Can we become legitimately PCI compliant? Yes….. but not like this. Now that they got their passed scan in no one but me really even cares are truely becoming compliant.
I think if we were a publicly traded company this would be illegal, but we are a private company. I fear if I take this to HR I may get fired by these same bosses. Since we are an at-will state for employment and I cannot tell this is breaking any federal law then I would have no action against them.
Please advise!
any one suggest me data security models for cloud computing, regarding data management and analysis for cloud computing

Those are just a few of the messages I get, and it won’t let me browse using Internet Explorer anymore. I have Windows Live for my security and virus protection, and I did a complete computer scan to remove anything harmful that might have been there. I still have 6 months left on my subscription, and the software is up-to-date. But the Vista Antispyware is still showing those messages and preventing me from accessing the internet. So I downloaded Mozilla Firefox from my brother’s computer and installed it onto my computer, and it works just fine. But the threatening messages are still there! And I can’t delete Internet Explorer from my computer. The Vista Antispyware wants me to buy into their subscription, but I don’t want to because the Windows Live one is still working and covers 3 computers in my home at a better price.
What should I think or do? Is it true and maybe the Windows Live software can’t detect it? It’s really annoying because it pops up warning messages every few minutes and sometimes gives very convincing names of certain threats that is apparently trying to access my computer at that moment. The Vista Antispyware icon is sitting in the notification area, and I can’t delete it. It’s nowhere in the Control Panel, and I can’t right click it. When I follow some of the prompts, it always lead me to a webpage to buy into its subscription, and I can’t navigate anywhere in Internet Explorer. HELP!!!

The privacy and data security portions of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) went into effect in ______________. (Type in the month and year in answer please)
Which substance would dissolve/destroy a RAM / flash memory chip within seconds of contact?
I want to make a rig where all computer memory chips would be chemically destroyed (as fast as possible) - as a data security measure. This happens automatically inside a metal box. The trigger has to be mechanical in case of power failure at the time when this is supposed to happen.
I considered other options but they all require electricity or large springs (crushing). I figured pouring chemicals into the box would be simpler.
Any ideas are welcome

Hey, I encrypted a few files about 2 months ago, with asus data security manager and now I need those files again but forgot the password. I know that the password contains 2 specific words and 3 numbers but i forgot the order I put them in. So is there anyone out there that knows a program that will calculate all the possibilities and save them to notepad?, Im no mathematician but im pretty sure there couldn’t be more then 300 possibilities Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this.
well unfortunatly I used a third-party encryption to encrypt them so http://www.passwordunlocker.com
wont be effective in this situation thats why I needed something just to save the possiblities to notepad so I can input them manually, but thanks for the suggestion.
