Which would you consider the safest form of security(data protection and hacking) for my business?
1.VPN tunnels (secure server)
2.Firewall
3.Encryption
4.Secure Locks(Non reusable passwords for employees)
5.Secuirty patches
And please don’t say all of them as my boss has said that we can only consider the best option.Thank you
@no : Encrytion of the data and company network
I have been told by parents to test the network after a short scare. I need software which tries to crack/hack both types of encryption without any source data (like key or similar) needed. It needs to work with vista and a ralink (no idea what model but supports N both 2,4 and 5ghz) wireless adaptor. I will post my computers wireless adaptor too.
Please post instructions or links to them if possible. Both free and paid. Thanks in advance

I heard that even before copy protection encryption on DVDs companies tried to protect their VHS tapes with something called Macrovision. But I don’t understand how you encrypt analog output? I mean if the the TV can display the image then it’s not encoded, as TVs simply display raw analog video data as an onscreen image. Any encryption would corrupt the image data and make it useless. So how does it actually "protect" anything? Please explain.
So these techniques worked on old VHS tape players/recorders (a.k.a VCRs). Are they still effective against people using more recently made (such as post year2000) VCRs to make recordings? These newer VCRs have more advanced read/write head motor controls, tape drive motor, better analog electronics, and even more advanced digital electronics. Doesn’t the very EXISTENCE of newer VCRs in a way defeat these older technologies?
Plus ANYONE can play the original protected video as normal, but instead of connecting it up to the TV video input, it can be connected to a computer’s video input card (if it has one) and recorded directly to AVI video file, then burned to a DVD with software like Roxio or Nero. I think THAT would defeat the protection. Wouldn’t it?
I’ve had my 5 year old desktop secured with antivirus, spyware, firewall, adware, etc. I just purchased my first laptop & since I’m now wireless, my paranoia has come up. Aside from the usual antivirus/spyware/firewall protection, do I need to get something with "wifi security", "bi-directional firewall", and bluetooth protection(‘bluesnarfing’ and ‘bluejacking’ can allow attackers using easily available software to hack into data held on the laptops, or use the machine as a conduit for other activities)? With all these different security programs I’m starting to wonder if they’re really necessary. I’m running vista ultimate & IE7 (which have protection & encryption), Norton Internet Security, keep my file sharing "off", & I’ll be installing Windows defender and Yahoo’s antispyware. Is this enough to keep my laptop data safe in a public wifi area or do I also have to get more security like the one’s I mentioned above? My apologies for the long post & gratitude to those who took the time.
I am having trouble answering these questions
This is for/about confidentiality of health information. If anyone could help me out I would really appreciate it!
1.Should corrections be date- and time-stamped?
2.When should the patient be advised of the existence of computerized databases containing medical information about the patient?
3.When should the patient be notified of purging of archaic or inaccurate information?
4.When should the computerized medical database be online to the computer terminal?
5.When the computer service bureau destroys or erases records. Should the erasure be verified by the bureau to the physician?

Review the section on encryption. If a non-technical friend asked you about protecting data using encryption, what would you tell them? Discuss at least three different options available.
Discuss several security challenges that may be encountered when securing a wireless network.
Outline RAID 5, including the minimum requirements for RAID 5. Describe how it creates fault tolerance. Discuss the advantages of RAID 5.
You have been hired to design and implement a new network for a small manufacturing company. List and describe the steps needed to complete this project.

This is what I have done as I use my pc too much for business, online shopping, and sending sensitive data through the internet.
1-3COM wireless router with NAT function and advanced integrated firewall include parental control and web sites filtering.
2-Windows Vista 64 bit with last updates
3-Bitdefender internet security
4-Ad-ware free edition,Spybot SD,and AVG antispyware free for worms and spyware detection.
5-Opera browser 9.25 with all things configured properly to block ads and unwanted cookies.
6-CCleaner, use it daily.
7-Mozilla Thunderbird with yahoo pop account.
Some Notes:
-A few ports is open in router for direct connection to some application and online gaming.
-UPNP is enabled in my router, wireless network is encrypted by WPA and AES for WPA2 as 128bit encryption didn't work with my laptop.
I use Tuneup utilities for customization
Is there any type of encryption going on? I could not find any good answer from Verizon or Sprint.
Can the data be captured by sniffer during the transmission from the a laptop through the cellphone system?
I have installed trend micro virus 2007, enabled windows firewall, installed a program to wipe my cache, and encrypt all my files with 256 bit encryption. what else can i do to improve my privacy and security on my computer. I was also wondering if there is a way to protect my wireless network more than i am right now than just with the pass key?
I have a two year old Sony VAIO notebook with windows vista home premium, and a seven year old dell desktop running XP hime SP2.

My company is shifting their data security emphasis to monitor 3rd parties. For example: we're constantly sending data to a firm that processes our finances and performs basic accounting/reporting. How do we ensure these 3rd parties aren't mishandling our data? How do we know if Joe Shmoe isn't copying our files, losing/replicating our tapes, or distributing our sensitive information? I'm looking for technologies, software, questionnaires, or some methodology that provides a meaningful assessment or metric that indicates how secure our data is once it leaves our network.
Duce's response is more inline with what I'm looking for. We've already established contracts with these 3rd parties that prevent them from mishandling our data, but nothing is full-proof. Our business wouldn't exist if our data was in the wrong hands, so we're not satisfied with just a legal contract that says "we'll sue you if you f-up". We've got the encryption down, we have reliable means of sending data, but nothing that helps us assess a 3rd party's handling of our data. Any tracking mechanisms? Software-related quality assurance, maybe? Tools that provide metrics that give an indication as to how responsible/reliable another company's infrastructure is?
I heard that in some countries airport security checks the content of your hard drives!? I have a lot of work related data on my laptop which I do not want to be copied by anyone when I go to Australia next month. Encryption of approx. 10 gb would take quite long I'd guess
So is there a chance they are gonna search my harddrive?
