I got the virus "Data Protection" spy ware on my computer. It seems I removed it because those little red x balloons are not in the right hand corner of the screen (where the clock is) anymore. But, it still seems to be bringing all the "pop ups" with it. I checked my Firefox to see if block "pop ups" is on and it is. Does anyone know how to stop this or how I can check/make sure it is completely removed?
Thanks!

How can I keep my computer safe without internet security?

Those are just a few of the messages I get, and it won’t let me browse using Internet Explorer anymore. I have Windows Live for my security and virus protection, and I did a complete computer scan to remove anything harmful that might have been there. I still have 6 months left on my subscription, and the software is up-to-date. But the Vista Antispyware is still showing those messages and preventing me from accessing the internet. So I downloaded Mozilla Firefox from my brother’s computer and installed it onto my computer, and it works just fine. But the threatening messages are still there! And I can’t delete Internet Explorer from my computer. The Vista Antispyware wants me to buy into their subscription, but I don’t want to because the Windows Live one is still working and covers 3 computers in my home at a better price.

What should I think or do? Is it true and maybe the Windows Live software can’t detect it? It’s really annoying because it pops up warning messages every few minutes and sometimes gives very convincing names of certain threats that is apparently trying to access my computer at that moment. The Vista Antispyware icon is sitting in the notification area, and I can’t delete it. It’s nowhere in the Control Panel, and I can’t right click it. When I follow some of the prompts, it always lead me to a webpage to buy into its subscription, and I can’t navigate anywhere in Internet Explorer. HELP!!!

have been using computers for only a year.i really don’t know much but i am very interested in computer security as i have had to deal with click-jacking, cross site request forgery, cross site scripting attempts, etc. i am using firefox with security add-ons that i think help protect my computer, but as far as understanding any of this, i get lost in all the details. can anyone steer me in the right direction. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Ok when I downloaded Zone Alarm Firewall it was running fine. then all these problems started coming in…. sometimes my programs would crash unexpectedly like firefox I would close it then when i would want to open it again it says Close firefox AND IT IS CLOSED!!! I just have been getting lots of problems since I have had Zone Alarm… I want to keep it on my computer but is there a way to fix Zone Alarm?.

Im getting a new laptop in about 3 - 4 days (depending on how much longer the shipping takes). I backed up all my important files, music and data. have backup disks for all my programs. now all my saved websites on firefox, is there a way to save them or back them up simply?

my computer is about to break down and crash. it probably has like 15 viruses and it was a hassle just opening up mozilla firefox to get on the internet, there is a constant popup from mcafee that says "your computer is in danger. windows security center has detected spyware/adwar infection. it is strongly recommended to use special antispyware tools to prevent data loss…"
not only that, but my desktop has turned into a black screen with the words "your computer is in danger". i have mcafee, but am not really sure how to work it or even if i have all the supplies. some thing called "brave sentry 2.0" downloaded and it is removes viruses i suppose, but i honestly have no idea. please help!
i have a fujitsu c series lifebook, windows xp
i want to fix it without rebooting my entire computer, PLEASE. and i forgot to mention, task manager doesn’t open up either. it says it has been disabled by the administrator

Help computer viruses?
It a newer computer and its running xp
It has Total Security on it but it has expired but it still scans
last scan
malicious programs (2), viruses (26), adware (2), spyware (6), tracking cookies (2)
It wont remove it unless we buy the program and right now we don’t have the money.
The background has changed to blue and says "Warning! Your’re in danger! Your computer is infected with spyware!" and more but didn’t want to type it all.
And every minute the icons and start bar and mouse pointer disappears and than comes back and a window pops up saying "Another program is currently using the file."
and anything you was on is closed down.
Firefox or Explorer wont open and nothing works in control panel after opening the control panel.

I was told to uninstall total security but
1. i cant do anything in the control panel so i cant open the uninstaller
2. i cant open any program including the internet
3. i can even find the data folder for total security in program files or data files.
4. alls i can do is open folders or so far thats all i can figure out

i can’t even get into safe mode or any of the other chooses but normal

here’s the thing, i am damn near computer illiterate so my boyfriend advised me to use these free programs rather than spend crazy jack for a program at best buy like norton 360

what i want to know is this, will using the programs below give me good computer security, and please i am not looking for other ones just now, just opinions on the ones below,

i wrote them down EXACTLY as he wrote them…….

comodo firewall with defense plus
avira antivir
spyware terminator with hips off ( whatever that is )
firefox 3 with noscript and adblock plus
superantispyware free
malwarebytes anti malware

are those good programs?

I am a little paranoid about computer security. Rate my set up from 1-10. 10 being the best. I have Firefox with No Script as my default browser. I run Avast, Spybot, and MalwareBytes as my anti-virus and antispyware protection. I also have Online Armor along with the XP Firewall installed. I have my web browser, thunderbird e-mail client, and the settings on my Online Armor firewall password protected. Also encrypt some of the most important files on my computer with an encryption program. Please rate.
forgot to mention, I do have McAfee Site Advior and Web of Trust Site Advisor extensions on Firefox as well.

i have cookies turned on in firefox the windows xp sp3 security is set to low, my avg anti virus is set to not delete cookies, i still dont know why none of this data is being saved. i had windows xp sp3, firefox and avg on my other hardrive and the login data is being saved!! where else can i check for settings?
the clear history when firefox closes is not checked
and the Protected Storage Service is started, stopped and started this

I use windows firewall (I have windows xp sp3), firefox (with adblock and noscript). I have comcast internet. I surf and play games online but most of the time it is just for school. I also do not open emails because everything has a preview mode now. I run online virus/malware scans but they never find anything. What should I change/add that is free?

On my desktop computer, I installed ATT Internet Security Suite, but it messed up my computer. Now I can’t open the Internet Explorer or Firefox. On the Windows Security, it says I have Firewall, but it can’t find any Antivirus programs. I have internet on my laptop, and I downloaded the Antivirus program onto my flashdrive and then moved it to my desktop. It extracted everything, but then it said that I must reboot the computer before anything can be installed or uninstalled, so I did, but it keeps saying the same thing over and over. I tried uninstalling the ATT Internet Security Suite, but it says the same thing. I think I might have a virus on it, but I can’t download anything to get rid of it. (My mom’s stubborn, she says that she wants to get the "security stuff" from ATT only…) Can anyone help me out?

Cox high speed internet security suite keeps telling me that there is a suspected file or something, and I just want to know how to do a complete scan of all files on the computer.

Can you also tell me how to stop pop-ups on mozilla firefox. It never used to happen before. I would really appreciate it.

First it told me that my page was old and I needed to refresh (or something like that). Then all I got was the new user page. When I clicked on already a user? sign in, I got a sign in box. When I typed in my ID and password, it just goes right back to the new user page. I cleaned the cache and deleted ALL cookies. In desperation, I uninstalled and reinstalled IE 6.0 to no avail. I still have to type in yahoo.com, get the new user page and the same thing happens.

My privacy and security settings are the same as they were when it was working. I have Zone Alarm security suite–had it for a year and do regular scans for viruses/spyware (I tried turning it off but made no diff). My yahoo home page works fine on Firefox. I have Windows 2000 on this PC. My yahoo home page works fine on my laptop in all browsers (running xp). This problem started last week. Does anyone know why or how to solve?
