I am looking for a third party firewall that offers solid protection & is user friendly, light on resources, etc.
My only hesitation is since I’m not very familiar with computers outside surfing the web, e-mail, basic programs, etc, I’m afraid that I will give access to bad "people" and programs. Like for instance, on the Zone Alarm and I’m sure other firewalls, the pop ups come up to ask if you want to accept or deny access. If they randomly come up, how do I be positive that the program is safe? If I said "ok" by accident, it’s then possible for pretty bad things to happen to my computer, correct?
Any input for a beginner would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you can suggest a user friendly, solid firewall that’s light on resources that would be great.
I have Windows XP SP2, IE 6, and I use the computer for surfing the web, e-mail, and realplayer, etc. I have 1 GB of RAM.
Okay so i had McAfee on my computer and it kept messing up so i decided just to delete it. i heard bad things about the AVG free so i downloaded the Microsoft security essentials. what else do i need? do i need a separate firewall? and whats the difference between anti-spy ware and anti-malware? and lastly how many of each should i run without my computer crashing?
If I have 950 MB of RAM, will my computer be slowed down if I install Zone Alarm Pro?
Also, is Zone Alarm Pro a solid firewall?
Please give me details on ZAP & the resources it uses. Thanks so much.
My cable modem light runs all the time, like it’s got data moving. I have a cordless router with wep security and firewall and Norton anti virus. Might be nuthin’ but the modem data light is always going so it makes me suspicious.
Its an old router it doesn’t have better security.
The last couple days i have noticed that it has no updates in the
Firewall / Alerts & Logs / Log Viewer. It is empty. It had some entries from a week agok, so i cleared the list. Now it is just blank… but Zone Alarm appears to be working otherwise.. Why is this blank is it not working right? Usually i would have alot of blocks a day. Please get back to me thanks
What is the overall best computer security on windows 7.. all i have now is avg free. and i would like programs that dont use to much cpu seeing that my laptop can get hot easy..
-also is it a good idea to get a firewall with avg free or does avg already provide one?
I just upgraded to Zone Alarm version 7. It won’t scan my NAS device. I access the drive no problem. Can someone help?
I have Zone Alarm Internet Security Suite which comes with an Anti Virus program. I have used it for several years. It is not just a firewall. Anyway, I just bought a Buffalo link station NAS drive and Zone Alarm will not scan the drive.
After I downloaded Zone Alarm, I tried shutting down my computer, and it just froze during shut down. I uninstalled Zone Alarm. and now the shut down process works fine. Why did Zone Alarm froze my computer on shut down? I have McAfee for virus scan, and I wanted something else for a firewall like Zone Alarm but tis giving me problems.
i have avg, and i was reading about how its good to have an extra firewall besides the one that comes with your computer. but zonealarm is an anti-virus program? and its not good to have two.. soo….
Some say G Data has a very good engine, kaspersky has a good firewall………….
I somehow blocked my internet usage. The only way for me to get online is to shut down the firewall. How do I fix this? I originally downloaded the firewall because of all the pop ups I suddenly started receiving. Now I cant do anything. Please help.
i installed zome alarm on my vista and then the security center window pops up saying that i dont have a firewall and that i need to turn on the windows one. i have zone alaarm so what should i do?
i heard that if you have two firewalls running that that was a problem and that you should only be running one
Alright, so I have some concerns about my computer’s security.
When I’m on my computer, I will often see a file under "SHARED" in my finder window. It looks like this:

I have no idea what that means. Can someone help me out here?
Also, when I look under "Sharing" on System Preferences, I see that it says "Computers on your local network can access your computer at…"
http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss70/autobahnburner/Security3.jpg
What the heck does that mean? Can somebody remotely access my computer?
As well when I looked under "Security", I noticed that my firewall isn’t turned on. Should I turn it on?

Thank you.
After a few hack threats, I installed the firewall "Zone Alarm", all my P2P file share programs stopped working, even after I told Zone Alarm to allow them (like kazaalite, Emule etc etc ( I thought I could shut off Zone Alarm when I wanted to download things, but even when i shut it down and made sure no residuals were running in processes/ task manager, I still have "something" closing all uploads in all the p2p clients, and no downloads will start even after the stupid Zone Alarm is deactivated .. it’s like it infected me! I"m really angry. I hope if I do a full uninstall It will go away, but I wanted the security of a firewall. , and thank you in advance for any help! .( I don’t need stupid answers like "reinstall" or "it works fine for me" I have had this issue on a few other XP machines, I’m well aware this firewall to the non power user like myself will appear to work fine, but to heavy downloaders, I have seen it do this on a few machines with a clean install.

All of a sudden, out of the blue, my windows XP security keeps popping up and starts automatically scanning saying I have trojans, worms, and other malware crap. I got this pop up that said Security hole detected… A program is trying to exploit Windows security holes! Passwords and sensitive data may be stolen. Can someone get my passwords on internet banking and stuff like that? I have to purchase a firewall because it’s not registered. I don’t have the money for it. I think I might I have an unregistered windows XP version too. This just randomly started happening a little bit ago. Please help, what can I do to stop this? I can still access the internet and everything, but XP security just keeps popping up. I thought about doing a system restore to a few days ago, but haven’t done it yet. Any information will be helpful.
