1. stop av.exe processor under task manager
2. delete C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Loca\av.exe
3. delete C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Local Setting\Application Data\av.exe
4. delete HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.exe (default) –>There’s 2 file. One is good and the other is bad. The bad one is (Secfile).

I got all of these information by running malwarebytes, however before taking any action, I go into my folders and I did not find any of these files. Sometimes I wonder if Malwarebytes is the start of this scandel. I installed it for remove some trojan and then deleted it and install avast. A few weeks later, I got 2010 vista security popping up. So I have to reinstall malwarebytes and malwarebytes detects the malwares and deleted it. Then I deleted the malwarebytes again, a couple days later I got the 2010 pop ups again. So I have to reinstall the Malwarebytes again. This time after malwarebytes scan everything, I want to see for myself if those files actually exit. Went into the directory and I can not find any of those files. It is like you actually need Malwarebytes to do the work. I used spybot the first time I have 2010 pop up and spybot did not find any 2010 vista security threat, instead it only found some xupiter spyware. After spybot found xupiter and not 2010 vista security thread, I have to run malware b/c I still have 2010 popping up, of course, malewarebytes found the files to 2010 vista security. So with that say, what’s your point of view on this?

I recently bought a MacBook, i only used PC’s before this. I used a 320 gb external hard drive to hold alot of backup data, movies, music, ect on my pc. When i plug the USB into my Mac it doesnt not allow me to modify the external drive. It says the drive cannot be modified, and all the folders have locks on them. Any ideas how to unlock the drive?

Hi, recently my son’s old 60gb Launch Day PS3 stopped working. It had a disc stuck inside, so we gave it to a local electrician who advertises PS3 fixing. The blu-ray drive had gone and as the console is out of warranty, we decided we’d rather just buy a brand new PS3 slim.
We told the guy to back up all the accunts and game saves for us, which he did and gave back to us on a recordable CD.
When we had bought and set up the new slim, I put the files onto a USB stick to be inserted and restored on the new console.
It says, however, that there is no backup data.

I have tried:
- Formatting the stick to FAT32
- Testing if the PS3 can recognise the stick with a photo - which it did
- Testing that I can successfully backup and restore the data on the temporary PS3 slim account, which worked.

I then loaded both the old PS3 data and the tempoarary PS3 Slim data onto my computer. I noticed the files and folders went as follows:

OLD PS3 DATA:
[PS3] - [EXPORT] - [PSV] - 6 different .psv files
and
[SAVEDATA] - 29 different folders containing .pfd, .sfo files and .png icons.

PS3 SLIM DATA:
[PS3] - [EXPORT] - [BACKUP] - [201002201412] - 4 .dat files with "archive" in the filename.

I have searched the internet for a good hour now, and it seems no one else has had this issue.
Surely the old PS3 data is compatible with the Slim, right?
Has the old data been backed up wrongfully?
Is there any way of converting this data so it is readable by the Slim?

Thankyou to anyone who can help, a well deserved 10 points can be yours!

(P.S. I also thought of setting both PS3s up and doing a data transfer via an ethernet cable, however the old PS3 won’t power up anymore - just stuck on a red light)

i have deleted the partition and installed windows on it.but i forgot to make the back up of my folders is there any backup options?

I have a desktop and laptop that I need to backup. I would like to automate this procedure if possible. Should I just get a network drive and some backup software or what is the best way. I plan to only backup the My Documents folders on both machines and not the applications.

actually i want to format my computer and in the mean time i want to save my important files n folders stored in the computer by making a back up cd. so can someone help me out that which kind of cv wil b better to use and if possible some short methods to backup data quickly

Ok, so I woke up this morning, logged into my computer and saw 16 popups open, a bunch of IE windows open (even though I almost always use Firefox), the little virus notification symbol flashing, and three new icons on my desktop:
>Error Cleaner
>Privacy Protector
>Spyware&Malware Protection

I tried opening the Task Manager, but because of the virus, it’s disabled and I can’t even open it using the RUN command. I’ve Googled for help, but almost all my results say something about using HijackThis or something like that. Ran it, didn’t do any good. I’ve tried Rouge Remover, which worked for about five minutes, but it was no good. My Symentec is up to date. Infact, I just ran it yesterday. After each reboot, more and more of my folders are going missing, so I’m trying to avoid rebooting (my stuff isn’t backed up). If anyone has help to offer, PLEASE tell me how to permanently remove this virus. I absolutely need access to the data on my computer ASAP. Thanks!

my computer sometimes says that i have about 400 different viruses or threats in my h drive or folders is it real it’s the windows security but i use Bit-Defender on my computer and i do deep system scans and it doesn’t fine anything and says it’s clean i trust Bit-Defender it was voted top security in 2009 but idk is the 400 viruses a error or something please help ?

I recently reinstalled windows MCE, on my C drive , over the corrupted windows MCE, due to some system files screwup that was bothering.
I did not format C drive .. I just reinstalled , over and let the installation do the cleaning.
as i had my data on the drive, and no way to back it up…

Now everytime i click a folder or drive it takes time to open up, it shows me that hour glass. Its like it is changing file permissons or something.

The only other thing i suspect is the firewall antivirus - which i switched from Norton to Zone Alarm 6, Internet security suite.. (this has some component level firewall)

the HDD is NTFS format.. its a fairly good laptop, bought recently.

can i rectify it.. ?
UltraDMA mode 5, write caching enabled for drive.
cpu util is <5-10% , memory is 1gb, with normally 400 mb used up .
no spyware. No suspicious proceses, No unessary processes.

Note: this acess is faster at second time.
Hdd is defraged, 50% space available
External and internal both are behaving same.
I suspect file permissions on NTFS.

cause i see a ?<number> user in the permissions for folders and drives.. which i believe is of my previous - before install login ID

I want to have an automatic backup, once a day to a external HD. I have 5 different folders where the crucial data is in. What software is the best and what software is cheap (free) and good?

I need to apply access to a folder to a single user. They need to be able to read and modify files but are not able to add or delete any files or folders.

From the looks of it to be able to give a user permission to write data you have to give them permission to be able to create files.

What are the permissions needed to be able to provide the security level I am looking for?

I need to do regular backup of my PC files and folders to an external hard disk, so I need a synchronization program, or way to update the files on my external disk which have been modified only since last backup. I dont want to do the full PC back up, as it fails to work sometimes. I just want to dump the data to the external hard disk

So I hooked up a 500GB external harddrive to my PS3, and I can transfer saved game data to and from it just fine, but I can’t seem to transfer game utility data or downloaded games to the external harddrive. Is there a way to do this without doing a complete utility backup, or should I just get an internal harddrive for it?

I can not open any files on my desktop, can not go into start menu to go into control panel, or documents, or even do a search. The windows close and a warning window pops up and says Data execution prevention-microsoft windows. to help protect your computer, windows has closed this program. Also says that it helps protect against damage from viruses and other security threats. Have run a virus scan and it did not find anything. What can the problem be?
I have not downloaded anything. Have done system restore, does not help. Can get into programs through the pull up menu and if it is an icon on the desktop, can not get into the folders on the desktop

I work for a computer company that uses slow computers in their offices in order to save power. Thus, I bring my laptop everyday and had my folders transfered so I am guessing my work is not saved on the company servers and therefore if my laptop crashes, I am DEEPLY screwed.
Can you please recommend a cost and time effective solution where I can save my data at the end of EACH day to prevent loss of data from crashes and such (Software apps)? There are external drives/DVD-CDs etc but those take way too long and you always need to worry about space.
Additionally, my laptop (although faster than the company's computers) is still pretty freakin slow at times (esp. at startup, and if I have more than maybe 3 word docs and 2 web browsers open, forget it)..I was thinking of adding ram…will it make a big difference? Where can I buy it so that it works well and is cost-effective? I've never installed ram so it might be best to go somewhere where I have physical assistance.
Thx SOOOO MUCH!!

Been using Outlook 2003 for nearly a year now, and i've got over 15,000 archived emails.

Today, when i start Outlook, it initializes, but after about 5 seconds, i get this error message: "Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Unable to open the outlook window. The set of folders could not be opened. The server is not available. Contact your administrator if this condition persists." When i click on the OK button, the program closes.

My internet connection is OK, and i am able to use IncrediMail, Outlook Express, and Mozilla Thunderbird. I have a DSL connection, home network. I am using a laptop computer with Microsoft XP Home. My Mcafee security center is running and up-to-date.

I tried windows system restore, but that didnt help.

I searched and found two .pst files in my Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook folder, and these are: Archive.pst (265kb) and Outlook.pst (3kb).

I badly need to HAVE my archived emails back. Will an Outlook reinstall delete my archived mails?
I did a scan of my Outlook.pst file, and the result says "The Inbox Repair Tool does not recognise the (Outlook.pst file.) No information can be recovered."

I guess my Outlook.pst file is corrupted? The current file size is too small to have all my emails and other data…

Is their a way to restore my old Outlook.pst file?

I need an *intelligent* backup/restore application for Windows that does the following:

1) automatically preselects my mail inbox folder, favourites, created or downloaded documents/music/videos, chat histories and saved web passwords; all this should be done automatically and decided according to the the Windows application defaults (e.g. if my default email app is Thunderbird, it should detect my Thunderbird mailbox location and pre-select it for backup).

2) it should scan my partitions and deduce which files are installed per-default with the application, and which were created by me. For example, some Winamp plugins store their settings in \Program Files\Winamp; I want those files to be detected and backuped.

3) the software should make intelligent decisions for the rest of my files and pre-select them based on created/last accessed timestamps.

Do you know of a such backup suite? It doesn't matter whether it is a commercial app or OSS.

Thanks.
Some feedback regarding the answers so far…

Norton Ghost is out of question - it is a disk imaging software, and it is far far away from what I want to achieve her (read description).

As for the Microsofot tool - thanks for the tip, I'll check it out. Although I doubt that it would be comprehensive as I need it to be, especially as it is a free utility provided by M$. :)

As for Acronis True Image; we use Acronis True Image 10 Enterprise at work, and I don't remember seeing any per-application options. Yes, you can choose individual folders and files, but this is far from the requirements I outlined above. Maybe the Home edition is different in this way, so I'd appreciate if you prove me wrong.

As I side note, I am currently evaluating Genie-Soft's Backup Manager Pro 7.0 (http://www.genie-soft.com/), and it is pretty close to what I need. It would be good to include more program-specific plugins, but at least it gives the capability to extend it through its XML scripting language.

I want to backup my 23 GB drive on dvds. What is a good backup software which can split the data on my drive and write on cd or dvd?
I mean I don't want to write the folders on dvd cuz I will get them in wrong order (because of splitting…) I want the software for example to make a big file and write it part by part on dvd and just tell me to insert a new dvd.

and for recovering also the same process…

I have an external hard drive to put everything on i just want to backup all installed programs all customization all folders everything iv done with my computer since i got it basically i want to clone my hard drive for free and copy it to my external hard drive
