my external hard drive was plugged into my desk top, it said it downloaded the stuff, i plugged it into my laptop, and i don’t speak the language that it says what with the numbers and the file names. how can i make my laptop download the filed on the hard drive.
it is a Simple Tech 320 gb with fabrik ultimate backup.

I am designing a data driven website. And to host the website, i need to know which is the best company which will offer a "Dedicated sever" of space 5 GB and better security to my database contents.

I need some online way to backup some of my data and I`d like to know which would be the best. I need a free solution for this. Like 10 GB

my 7 Gigabite hard disk is full, and i got another hard drive 177 Gb and i want to know how can i transfer all data to the other one and use it instead of the one that is full… like move the C:/ program files to the other hard disk, cause the one that is 7 Gb is full and looks like its downloading codecs needed and security updates and its full for that to install. Please help
Well, I tried moving the My documents folder but it told me that it could not be moved and it also told me that it was being used by other programs… so what could i do.. i dont want to install everything back again, cause i just installed it and i spent a whole day setting up everything.. and i dont wanna do it again :(

I have about 2-Tb of data to backup weekly, but only about 20-Gb to maybe 100-Gb max is really "new".

What’s a good backup program that backs the files up to an external drive in their native format (not zipped, not compressed, not part of a backup set… literally the files are an exact copy of the source drive)?

I used Retrospect 6.0 for a while, but it has some issues with the external drives sometimes.

I’ve had bad experiences with backup "sets", so I prefer file-by-file copies.

Something cheap too, under . I’d spend more but we just spent a fortune on a new system… so "now iz not de time."

I’m trying to backup data and programs from my computer (that I’m about to re-image) to a DVD with 4.7 GB, but it’s not working. I open the DVD file using "My Computer" and then I try to drag files into the now open E: drive. It gives me this message: "Windows encountered a problem when trying to copy this folder. What do you want Windows to do?"

What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this? Is there a better, free way to backup data and programs?

I made a backup of the files from a computer with a corrupted copy of windows, but I can’t mount the backup. Acronis gives me the error: "This is not the last created volume of a backup archive" and I get a corrupt image error when I try to mount it. I can tell the data’s there; it’s a 36 GB image of the disk. Is there ANY way to extract the files from it? What about validating the image using the Acronis boot disk? Thanks!

Right now, I am using Norton 360. It’s okay and does not slow my computer that much, even the old one. But it’s still relatively new, and I’ve heard that Norton will eventually ruin my computer, when it gets older.

I’ve been thinking:
Trend Micro Internet Security
Webroot Internet Security
CA Internet Security
McAfee Internet Security
Kaspersky Internet Security

But my laptop does not meet disk space requirements for like all of these.
Any suggestions would be nice too, but no AVG, because that is mad expensive.
I heard that you cnanot use a USB mouse for Kaspersky. I have a USB mouse.

Hey trying to find the best software to back up 400 GB of data onto DVDs. My biggest problem is trying to keep organized of whats been backed up… Trying to find one that could hopefully even if i have to restart the computer it will remember what files need to be backed up next. Any help will be great!!

Hi,
I'm going to buy a new HDD. It will be the system disk only, as I already have a data/backup one.
I'm looking for a very silent disk, especially during read/write. I can't bear raptors anymore !!!!!!!
But I've red that the quieter drives (Hitachi P7K500 and WD Caviar GP) are also very slow…
So I consider buying two or three and set them in RAID0.

What would be the best compromise ?
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.11
-WD Caviar GP
-Hitachi P5K500
-Samsung T166
-Seagate Momentus 7200.2 (2.5")

Is there a big noise difference between them ? and speed ?
Is it better 2 or 3 (or even 4 ?) disks in RAID0 ?

Storage size doesn't matter; as a system disk with a few apps only, no data, no security issues, I only need 100 or 200 gb. So I'll take the smallest available.
Don't talk about SSDs : they are far too expensive… Maybe next year…
Thank you for advices

Hello

I’m Trying To Setting Up A Raid Connection. I Installed A Raid Controller Card Installed A 20 GB 100 ATA Hard Drive, & A 80 GB SATA 1.5. It Recognizes Both But Its Asking Me To Setup A Raid. It Says:
1. Auto Setup For Data Security
2. Array Mode 1 (Mirroring)

Questions Is What Should I Do? What I Want Is Windows & Programs To Run On The SATA Drive And Store Stuff On The 20GB? What Should I Pick

This should be a simple question. I'll try to make it come out that way.

I'm currently using a 40GB external HDD in an enclosure to back up my important files and folders. This drive is nearly full with my backed up data. I backed up my files and folders with simple copy and paste since I didn't have any backup software at the time. This HDD connects to my computer via a USB port.

Now I have a backup software called Acronis True Image (ATI) 9.0. I'm now ready to do a complete backup of everything including my operating system.

My question is this. If I now use ATI to backup my computer, will it go ahead and overwrite everything that's already on my external HDD?

Remember, my 40GB HDD already has 25+GB of my files, pictures, and folders on it that I copied and pasted there a couple of months ago and a complete backup of my computer is going to need at least that much space.

Hope to hear from someone on this. It's too hot outside to do anything.

Where are my 2 Personal Outlook Folders located? What about the Outlook contacts?

My laptop started acting up on Friday. I ran a Hard Disk Check from the ThinkVantage main menu (Its a Lenovo laptop). There was some failure message when I did that.

I am actually surprised I am able to copy anything to CD-RW right now, but I am. So, I've been backing up all my data files.

However, I'm not sure where my two Personal Folders are located. I think those end with .pst, right? Where would I find those, as well as my outlook contacts, so I can back those up as well?

Its a work laptop, so I have a feeling they will just replace the HD when I take it in tomorrow.

Thanks!
Damn, ok, I found the 2 pst files, but one of them is 1.5 GB. How can I back that up onto a 700 MB CD-RW?

I have a little over 1 TB of important data that I really need to start backing up. I've experienced the horrible losses of having valuable data (irreplaceable photos, movies, and so on) twice before, and NEVER want to go through that again.

So before it's too late, I want to start backing up about 1.2 TB regularly (of data that I want to backup for sure, that's not including applications or system stuff that I don't need to worry about) of stuff regularly.

I know the process and how to do it, the thing I can't decide on is the best format/media to use. Here are some options I've considered so far:

1) DVDs. But not really an option for this much data, even DL ones would be over 100 each time.
2) Tape drives. They're expensive for the machine, and I think only normally hold about 60GB per tape(?)
3) Blu-ray. Still seems way too expensive, drives I think are still about k(?)
4) More ext. hard drives. About 0 for 1TB or so. And just more stuff to keep around, not like a little CD.
So, any ideas or thoughts would be great. Either from the list above, or other options I'm missing. Within 2-3 months, I'll probably have much more, like another 500 GB to add to the list that I need to regularly backup (my personal stuff, and big work files), so if you don't recommend to just keep buying more hard drives (which are just so big in comparison to other things to keep around) - and are just a fixed size (non removable) … this may factor into your ideas…. Thank you for your time!

we have a surveillance system of 36 cameras that record on motion, the problem here that we want to have a copy of daily recorded videos, the size of a daily video is about 100 GB, what is the best solution to keep it, IE: tape drive, Big DVD,…?

I just purchased a terabyte HDD and i needed to backup about 100 gb of very important info i have on my computer. i am going to use the windows backup software, but i was wondering if i should run a full backup tonight then tomorrow start a scheduled incremental backup or if i should just let i do an incremental backup since it has not backed up before. it should back the whole thing up right??

I recently got rid of my 8 gb iPhone and I was wondering if there was anyway to open/extract my address book from a backup file in Itunes so that I can add my contacts to my new phone.

Any help would really be appreciated.

Thanks

I am going to upgrade my computer replacing the hard drive video card and RAM. I am not an expert at this but can get it done what I need to know is how to easily backup the data so that when I am done I can have all the data moved back on the computer. What is the easiest way and what will I need for it. In case it is necessary I have about 80 GB of info saved.
