Can someone tell me the safest way to protect my documents on my computer from hackers on the internet? I’m not just talking about AV or firewall protection, what I really need is some software so that if someone is able to hack my computer through a trojan or phishing scam, they cannot see or modify or send confidential private data that could lead to fraud.
Thanks.

I have a BS in criminal justice, I have graduated from a police academy and I am 24. I am having trouble being hired as a police officer, so I am considering a career in computer (internet, network, etc.) security. What degree or certificates do I need in order to find a job in this field? How long would it take, does the position allow you to travel internationally? I have an ENTP personality if that helps and I want something with more freedom and something that harnesses my interest in computers although I have had no training whatsoever in this field.
Specifically, protecting networks from hackers and what not.
In regards to travel, I wanted to know if consultants in the field did much traveling.
i pplied to a job on the guardian.co.uk website which is a tabloid newspaper, i then get an email saying my identity has been stolen by hackers who infiltrated the websites security and stole my data. what can i do?

I’ve searched online for careers that are related to computer security, but not for example, a computer security specialist. I’m not the wake-up and do the same routine kind of guy and, to sit behind the desk and secure the organization’s database. I would like my career to be more like adventurous, stopping criminals/hackers, moving from one place to the other, work for the government or something cool. I hope you understand my idea. Please help, I’m very clueless.
I have downloaded Yahoo Anti-Spy.
Do I need to have other security systems installed such as Norton, McAfee, Webroot etc. in order to have my computor totally protected from hackers, I.D. theft etc.
I was using my laptop and it just flashed very fast and after that nothing happened.is it okay?

produces patient billing applications for doctors’ offices. In working on the next release of you firm’s one and only software product, a small programming glitch has been uncovered in the current release that, if left uncorrected, poses a security risk to its users. The probability of the problem being uncovered is low, but if exposed, the potential impact on your firm’s 100 or so customers could be substantial-hackers could get access to private patient data and change billing records. The problem will be corrected in the next release, but you are concerned about what should be done for the users of the current release.
The problem has come at the worst possible time. The firm is seeking approval for a million loan to raise enough cash to continue operations until revenue from the sale of its just-released products offsets expenses. In addition, the effort to communicate with users, to develop and distribute the patch, and to deal with any fallout will place a major drain on you
The government allows a laptop to go home with employees with no data protection on the hard drive containing military an VA folks data that could destroy their lives if in the wrong hands. Who should pay for that? The veterans or the government? Should Government employees that should have more respect for data and know better, be held liable? And what should be done about the 26 million people that have lost their data to the crooks? What would you do and what do you think that the American Veterans should do? Check the CNN news out last week on hackers. And there is more to add to this, another case happened a day or two later. HELP.
In Windows XP Professional, there is a way to encrypt files, what is one example? I was reading that Encrypting File System provides an a level of file protection from hackers and data theft…How do I take advantage of this….
I have 5 different PCs in my house, all connected wirelessly to my SMC router. What are some things I can do to ensure that no one nearby "hijacks" my wireless internet. And keep it relatively safe from hackers on the internet.
Cloud computing will be a security nightmare. With all of the data being online hackers will easily get access to thousands of businesses and consumers data. Cloud computing will be fraught with security problems, especially if the data is kept on Linux machines.
At least Windows allows users to keep all of their software on their own computers.
What is a port or service? Some people say to close all ports or service has hackers scan for ports or service.
There are many ways to segment a corporate net, such as by department or function or location. What advantage does each method offer, and what disadvantages they present?.——–

I just got this new wireless router. I connected it like it is suppose to be done and it works great. This is the lay out of it. Internet - modem - wireless router to computer. And my laptop picks up the connection great. But the question to me is security. I know I can make a pw for the wireless internet. But is it safe to do this? Will hackers be able to get my pw easily then see what I view? I fear that somebody outside could be on a laptop and hack into my internet and take personal data from my internet.

According to a 2007 study by the Ponemon Institute and Redemtech, 70% of data breaches result from the loss of "off-network" equipment. That is, equipment that's not connected to the Internet. There are some other staggering numbers, but the point is that a huge percentage of data breaches are NOT "hackers" breaking into networks. They're good old laptop thefts, basically. So which is more important to focus energies on (not that any aspect should be completely neglected): laptop security or network security?
