Here are the spects of my computer:

Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.60GHz

My O.S is: Windows XP Professional Service pack 3

P.S: Will NOT get avg or anyother free anti-virus. Please DO NOT lobby me into doing so.

I want to buy a computer and put on a 400-fps 8-channel DVR card on it and record from security cameras 24/7 and erase data after every 2 weeks.I need advice about the PC.My budget is around 440 $ for the computer.I have bought everything else. What should i get Intel or AMD.What is better AMD or Intel.
I am not going to make it myslef i am goign to buy it preconfigured because it is more reliable.

Okay so whenever I start up my computer it uncommonly exits the Welcome screen after 10 seconds (usually 2 seconds or less). When I get into my desktop, the explorer doesn’t show, the desktop doesnt show, I can’t even right click anything. I have to restart the explorer from Windows task Manager before I use my computer (WHICH IS VERY ANNOYING for it takes about 1min. for the explorer to appear.)

Computer Specs:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2
Version 2002
Intel(R)
Celeron(R) CPU 2.53 GHz
2.53 GHz, 512 MB of RAM

Suspicious programs:
Windows XP: I ran Microsoft Update and ever since it installed an arseload of security updates on my computer this has been happening.

StyleXP: (Windows appearance enhancer) May have corrupted some sufficient display data.

Ragnarok Online: My brother plays Ragnarok online on my user account.

ok i need help choosing security software ive gotten a list of my five favorite choices in order,(will be getting laptop wiht 4gig ram, and intel core 2 duo processor)
1.kaspersky 2010
lots of features rhobust security, but it takes up 350k of ram while scanning for me so that is a big issue, also it takes up more than others just being there, big plus is sandbox and hips(i think, but cant remember)
2.Avira Premium Security Suite
av has excellent scanning capabilities, i dont know about firewall, but if its as good as its av then it should be fine
3.norton
i heard 2009 is very good and 2010 is better, its light, my only issue is a really bad experience that killed my computer basically, had to take it to tech
4.eset
what i have on one of the computers in my house, its light very good scanning, firewall is very simple, but i guess i can live with it, it is non intrusive, issue no hips as far as i know, also ive heard bad things about it lately
5.g-data
i heard it is a ram hog, but it scanning rates are high due to two av engines running on it

my uncle also recommended mcafee so ill put it on, but ive heard very bad things of it and never have been a fan of it

plz tell me why u think one is better than the rest, also(im not looking for a free one), (in addition i use malwarebytes, superantispyware, and spybot search and destroy)
Jon has the best answer so far since it comes from consumer reports ..but can you tell me anything about kaspersky
(methods of consumer reports)
even if their methods are not exactly what everyone else expects..also i dont like comodo firewall ive used it before

Im using a Clone PC, Intel Pentium 4, 512mb memory, 80 gb hard disk, ATI Radeon 256 mb video card. It records for at least 15 hours, and when i get back to the computer, its like it rebooted because it is in the welcome screen. OS used is windows xp

One of my RAID hard drives failed, Is it necessary to replace it? Should I reboot the computer?

The Intel Matrix Storage Console my computer is working normally(without data protection), will it continue working normally?

My computer has an Intel Core 2 Duo processor T5300 (1.73 GHz, 533MHz) and a 2GB DDR2 System Memory and a 160GB 5400RPM hard drive. will CA internet security suite 2007 work on my computer?

I have a Intel Pentium III (3) computer with 573 MHZ, 120GB HDD, 256MB RAM, ATI Radeon PRO 128MB, and Windows XP Pro

What is good protection for this computer that is not a hog, and will keep this fast. AVG seems to slow it down but what about Avast.

And no I will not buy a new pc
