I’ve had Microsoft Security Essentials for about a week now and i’m a little suspicious that the other day a Web page downloaded a Trojan Horse. Will it remove anything that could seriously threaten my computer.:P

Using iobit 360 and like it but microsoft security essentials in this combination is making my computer run slow. Should I remove one of these

Okay so i had McAfee on my computer and it kept messing up so i decided just to delete it. i heard bad things about the AVG free so i downloaded the Microsoft security essentials. what else do i need? do i need a separate firewall? and whats the difference between anti-spy ware and anti-malware? and lastly how many of each should i run without my computer crashing?

While working in audacity the program crashed and as far as i know i lost all the data i was working on, are there backup files made as in microsoft office or is the data gone?

Hey, I set my Microsoft Security Essentials to scan daily. If i’m using my computer at that time, will it still scan?

I got a virus and took my mini laptop to have the virus removed and after removing the virus they loaded AVG security on my computer. Now my computer is painfully slow. I already had Microsoft essentials. I’m thinking of deleting AVG because of the way my computer now runs. Isn’t Microsoft essentials enough? I ran a scan on Microsoft essentials and it found an infection and deleted it. Apparently AVG didn’t catch it. Do all security programs slow down the computer?

I own a dell studio laptop my warranty has expired, im confused as which free computer fixer-upper im supposed to use. because i had MC AFEE, microsoft security download 1.0, dell data safe, microsoft fix it center, or ca anti spy. im sorry im acting like i don’t know WTF im doing but i don’t. PLEASE take the time to help. i cant afford to pay for a good software.

so, im not the most technology savvy guy, i know my way around some programs but you know, average. i was listening to a lecture about viruses and it caught my attention.

the speaker was talking about people out there (in the internet world) who make worms and viruses etc. and release them into the internet, which brings about my 1st question?

1: how do people even get worms into the internet, now, i know it may seem childish but when i hear that i imagine a worm as being like an airborne virus, the internet being all the air and your random searching being you accidentally running into it while going through a DNS or whatever? so, i know that’s not right, the internet is just light being sent through a cable and being read as 1’s and 0’s and that makes your computer interpret the data and display it, so, how do people get worms in?

okay, going past that, im always curious as to how these things go about doing what they do, its as if the virus has artificial intelligence of logic algorithms??? how can a worm (once again, my mental image) sneak into your computer and hack stuff in a sense so

2: how do worms (viruses etc.) actually get into your computer and hack things, do they just go for random things that every computer has? what if you have some new OS, then would this virus be useless, just pointless data sitting in your computer unable to do anything?

the third thing that was brought up was that once in 07 i believe, microsoft discovered a MASSIVE vulnerability in their DNS servers or something like that, and any would-be hacker could exploit, now, it just ended there, exploit. to do what?

3: if some hacker got into say, Microsoft’s DNS servers, how and, what would they even do?

there as one thing, final one, the speaker said the two of the main 13 servers that make up the backbone of the internet got hacked and severely damaged, running at 20% capacity so.

4: first, i always thought the internet was just all the computers connected together, so… yahoo for an example has their servers, and when we go to yahoo, we are in their servers, and if more people come, they need more servers etc. etc. what are these 13 main servers, who owns them, where are thither? what are their importance?

4.1: also, how could someone hack one of them, all i imagined it being was a HUB, like the center of a mall, there’s nothing to steal there, its just a gate way for making things more organized? what would you hack?

4.2: how do these things get past security, in fact… how does security work??? i imagine it being like a border for getting onto a country (you computer or other networks) the security knows whats legit and lets it pass, and whatever looks suspicious, gets kicked back into the pool or desert internet. how do things get past? are some viruses like airborne real life viruses, and they just "slip through" with no way of stopping them?

4.3: if all this is possible then why don’t (me assuming this makes sense) we (the gov.) just make worms that seek and destroy all this bad software, just make worms that know what should and shouldn’t be and you know, delete them (once again, me trying to make sense)

5:perhaps the least tech required question, why do these people do it, why make problems and viruses, why?

My computer says i can make a backup disc and a system image disc, will either of those save the OS (and all apps/data like Microsoft Office program and its documents) to the disc allowing me to restore everything if it crashes or I wipe it? If not, how do i restore everything (including Microsoft Office and my Windows 7 OS)?

Microsoft Security Essentials, at this time, is the only anti-virus/spyware software I have in one of my computers. So far, it has done an excellent job. Even though I downloaded it about a month ago, I can say it’s pretty reliable for my computer does seem to be working fine so far. However, would you trust MSE as your only anti-virus/spyware software in your computer?

I am unable to access control panel and I can not download any programs to get rid of it. Microsoft security essentials will not download. I am running xp professional. I can not afford to have it fixed professionally as I have already dumped money into it that I can’t use.

I’m backing up files on my computer and I was wondering how do I go about saving my windows word pad files? I guess its also called microsoft word but it’s not office, just plain old word pad, and it isn’t ‘notebook’ either.

I’ve been using it for ages and have alot of files saved that I don’t want to lose.

Do I use a data disk? and if so do I use a dvd or a cd?

And along with that how would I get it off the disk?

I downloaded Norton System Works yesterday and know it seems that my windows security center is currently unavailable. (Service has not started or stopped. How can I turm the microsoft security center backon. I have rebooted and also checked all programs at start-up under MSCONFIG and I did not find any errors.

I have Windows Defender, AVG, Malwarebytes, Windows Firewall, and Microsoft Security essentials (downloaded that one today). I am also thinking of downloading Spybot search and destroy. Should delete anything or install anything. Plus if this matters i also have cc cleaner.

I am currently using One Care Safety Scanner (Full Service Scan). And my ZoneAlarm Extreme Security scanned it and said it’s trojanware and is High risk. I went to Microsoft.com and downloaded the One Care Safety Scanner and on the same page theres a free Microsoft Security Essentials scanner which I downloaded. My ZoneAlarm Extreme Security is for some reason saying it’s "Trojanware". Heres what my ZoneAlarm said: "Backdoor.Win32.ServU-based was found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Microsoft Antimalware\Support\MPLog-03012010-142526.log on 3/1/2010 14:57:38". Any help is much appreciated thanks.
