Washington state laws apply…

If I have external recorded surveillance cameras monitoring my home. All corners are covered and as a casualty of war, my neighbors houses are in the shot a little but are not the main focal point. I also record audio for my front porch in case someone breaks in and I have to use lethal force, it will be on audio me saying stop or I will shoot. If I put a steel 12ga slug in someone, I want to have my ass covered in a legal battle. Am I legally obligated to notify any neighbors who’s property can be seen on camera even if it is obvious the camera is for my home and am I required by law to post warning signs that you are being monitored? If so, how man, how far apart, how big… etc? Please do not post opinion, I want fact backed up by links to laws (local or federal). I really tried to look for an answer myself, but found nothing but opinion.

I’ve been staying in the burbs for a bit now and i’ve noticed that suburbanites act with a military-like precision. Like any good member of the armed forces, i see them wearing neatly pressed uniforms, eating prepared meals, coming and going in large groups at the same times everyday, constantly looking for signs of status or rank on each-other. they all do their pt at the same time, biking trails on weekends in their matching pt uniforms, leaving for deployments on holidays, ect.. well, you get the picture.
anyway, not having been received by the welcome-wagon, i’m wondering when i need to arive home from the bar so as not to look out of sorts and raise a scandal. Sitting on the porch, i’ve noticed that on most fridays and saturdays cars pile in to the complex at exactly 12 and 1am. Presumably the ‘partiers?’ When i go out, should i set an alarm for one of those times so as not to be drummed out of this tidy purgatory for missing my ques?
i ask because i’m not familiar with this type of environment, where people act in unison and call 1am a late night. if i roll in at 3 or 4 should i be expecting cops to stop me just for being out, or maybe neighbors making noise complaints over the sounds of footsteps on concrete?

Not ID theft in the conventional sense, since my net worth is below 0.

Some of my neighbors have been entering my apartment with a key and have stolen at least 50 percent of all my papers. Apart from government tax forms, pay stubs and bills, there are also photographs and one illustration from a book I’d kept since I was 6, that I was looking to frame and display. I’m 50 now, and no longer have it. That probably upsets me most of all.

I’m not worried about identity theft from a credit point of view, but I find it very disturbing that someone would be profiling me in this way. Why would anyone do this?

Even a governing body would produce a warrant and come when I’m home?

I know they want to find anything to get me out so they can give this apt. to their own people… let me say at this point I am very quiet and keep to myself and don’t bother anyone. Yet just for putting my dishes away the other day, the police were called!

I spend my life online… who could I be bothering? I’m into photography and graphic arts, it doesn’t get any more interesting than that!

When I discovered what was going on, which amounts to a continuous exchange of documents back and forth up and down the street, I became terrified to leave my apt. For the last few months, I have only been going out twice a month when I absolutely have to, and come right back within a couple of hours. Even in that short time, they were still coming in. I also believe there is some kind of monitoring going on in here.

I’ve since had an alarm installed, there’s an extra expense I didn’t need, as I am currently unemployed. And, to tell you the truth, I still don’t really feel secure.

I am located in Montreal, Canada. If anyone knows where I can get a free bug sweep, I’d really appreciate it.

I want to sue for harassment, but feel I have to wait until I am formally confronted with something, because the proof I have is not enough yet.

There are too many of them who are in it together, against just me, although I have told everyone I know what is going on and that if some strange thing happens to me, where to look first.

If anyone has any advice… please.

she shook me
slapped me
poured water on me
and used my STUDDED BELT on me
and i was still asleep
i woke up and school was over
this has happened the past 4 days

My neighbors have called police on me and my family for stupid things. Daily for 2 months police came over. How do I handle it? I thought about surveillance equipment but I’m broke. My lawyer said he can’t fix being bullied by them. Some things they have called police for:
claims I stare at them when I check my mailbox (it’s near their house),
watering trees in my yard, taking out trash to the curb, basically any time I am outside of my house. They lie about calling them names too. I work 6 days per week and I have no time to do these things if I wanted to! We go to court in a few weeks over disorderly conduct which they filed against me for flipping them off after they cursed out me and my kids. The crazy neighbors live 3 houses down, only 3 houses are on this street (new subdivision). Next to my house is an empty lot then one house between mine and the psychos. They pick on me for being divorced and raising my kids alone by choice. I have never encountered them before, I never even knew their names until the police told me last week. They told me they "lived here first" and that they "rule the neighborhood".
What can I do to keep my sanity? I just want to be left alone!

I need to get my neighbors drug dealing activity on video. I don’t know what kind of camera to buy. The subjects are about thirty feet away, and I want to be sure to get clear video. Can someone explain about wide angle lenses, what would get a better picture, 3mm or 6mm?

my neighbors are getting fustrated from when i come home from work late, the chirping is a little bit of an annoyance, all i want the car to do is flash the lights. And also, how do you change the alarm siren, i took it in to get the passive arming turned on, and now the alarm sound is not the same and not great! can some one help me?

Our neighborhood in Kansas City, MO is normally a safe neighborhood, but some reason burglaries have been on a peak these past two months, with 4 of my close neighbors being robbed, and one of them I witnessed. I need to get a Security system, but places like ADT and Brinks require 3 years contracts, which in the end turn into ALOT of money! Is there any local sercurity company that you recommend, or have had experiences with?? Which company have you found to be the most affordable. Thanks-

I’m completely fed up with the delinquent behavior of our neighbors. Drunken party guests running through our yard at 1am, kids shooting bbs at the car, throwing rocks and breaking a windshield and the cursing at us and denying everything when confronted. We’ve called the cops, but the officer didn’t do anything.

What are my options when it comes to installing an outdoor security camera. I don’t have a lot of money (windshields cost a lot to replace) and I can’t afford a service. This would be in the Central Florida area.

Suddenly my car alarm has begun to go on when the car is off — in the middle of the night, or anytime! Likewise the inside left-front "door open" bell and light go on when I’m driving even though the door is shut tight and locked! What’s going on? How can I fix it? This is driving us (and our neighbors!) bonkers!
p.s. It’s a 2001 VW Jetta.
p.p.s. No warning lights go on.
p.p.s. Our mechanic hasn’t figured it out yet, either. (Now he wants to tear apart the door and the entire electrical system.)

So many occasions, I have heard people’s car alarms going off for a long time.
They cannot seem to understand how to simply press the button on their keys.

I know that on some occasions, it can be because the car owners are in a shop, are at work, or too far away to know that their alarms are going off.

But on many occasions it can be that the neighbors cars are on, and I can tell that they definitely are at home.

Other times it is in the middle of the night.
If it is in the middle of the night, this is a problem because of the fact that they take far longer to turn off the alarms.
I would have thought that it was be a faster response since the car owners would want to be able to sleep too, but it is longer somehow.

Tell me car owners, if you leave your car alarms going off; why is it so difficult to turn the alarm off, and what it is that stops you from wanting to just press the button and turn the darn thing off?

Ok so we are moving next month into a house that we will be renting. Unfortunately, ADT & Brinks dont let renters use their services…which is ok because we dont plan to rent the house forever, so their products would probably be a waste of money anyway.

Ive been online FOREVER it feels like, looking for a home security system we can install ourselves. Ive heard wireless is the easiest way to go? We just dont want to have to pay a professional to come out and do it. I have NO idea how to find what Im looking for or what products actually do what we want them to do. So Im hoping that maybe somebody can steer me in the right direction if I describe what I hope to find…..

Like I said, wireless would be great. I want something not too difficult to use….we would like to be able to monitor all the windows and doors in the house (there isnt very many). And MOST OF ALL, I want something LOUD. Id want the siren/alarm to be able to be heard from the next door neighbors houses….I figure, if the alarm isnt very loud, what good does it do? Im hoping that if (God forbid) anyone ever tried to break in, the alarm would scare them away if they know everyone can hear it and cops may very well be on their way….

I have a 4yr old son and I want to do anything I can to assure a sense of safety in our house.

Any info or help would be greatly appreciated. Does anybody know of a system that I should purchase?

I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima and ever since I took it to the car wash the alarm has been triggering on it’s own. I stopped locking my car to avoid the alarm from going off due to a slight breeze! It worked for a while but today it was pouring rain and the alarm started sounding AGAIN. I didn’t even lock it tonight and it still went off with no provocation. Has anyone had this problem? Is it being triggered by water? I’m afraid my neighbors will have me arrested (or put a hit out on me) if I can’t get this problem solved. I’m not looking forward to a sleepless night, waking up every 30 minutes to turn off my alarm. The only alarm I want to hear is the one I set for the AM! Help!
thanks guys! great answers! i thought about smashing the alarm button into a million pieces but thought twice when i realized it was my only salvation when the alarm sounds on the car…i almost cut wires into bits at random but remembered that i’m NOT MacGyver! so the suggestion to search for the right fuse sounds like a realistic idea and the answer re: the shock spring sounds about right! so thanks guys! in the morning (if i make it without assassination) i’m going to search for a fuse box, a shock spring, and a very VERY large coffee!

My neighbors are all scared now that Obama is the president. Thats why at my home we have safety drills. Even my 7 year old is scared of terror now that Bush is gone. So we practice by sounding an alarm (a cow bell), and we practice hiding under the dining room table.

How do you feel safe from terror?

I have a neighbor who has set up surveillance which points directly onto my property as he records all activity at our driveway and front door.

The police say it is not illegal. And this guy knows the law and just wants me to waste my good money on a lawyer who will do nothing in the end.

I would love to disable his equipment without stepping foot on his property, but have no knowledge on how to do so.

So, I want to waste a bunch of his time as he views endless footage of nothing worth watching but enough for him to stay interested to spend his attention on.

Any ideas how to distract this bully??

This man is the definition of a bully. He harassed two other neighbors so relentlessly that they sold their homes and uprooted their families. I have only spoken to him 4 times in 6 years and he only comes to live here from June to September. Our family owned this property for four generations since 1944. Waterfront, we are going nowhere.
Most people have a hobby or play a sport for fun. This guy irritates the living hell out of anyone he can. Please just give me some ideas on how to set him up for worthless video footage that will waste his time. Thank you
Tom C. you are right about ignoring him. That is what I have been doing and this is why I believe he set up four cameras and two spot lights. The actual filming does not get under my skin, although it is weird knowing you are being watched. However, I want to make a mockery of his surveillance.
Prior to him installing his surveillance system: I bought a fence. He saw me out there measuring. The next day I was slapped with a summons for trespassing on his property. I have a valid certified stamped A2 survey. He has no valid survey. The judge told him his survey is a sketchy sketch and come back in December with a real survey. So, you have to understand that this guy just WANTS to cause trouble. He has 9 other law suits pending. He is rich and told us he would bury us in lawyer fees.

whats going on? i dont want to wake up my neighbors but i need my car in an hour. ps my car battery is completely dead.. no lights work in my car at all not even dimly. i was gonna charge my car battery and take my car to auto zone to see if i need a new battery cuz i think i might.. this ones getting old

To start out let me say, i’m very technically inclined.
I just moved into a new house in a nice neighborhood. Well i thought it was a good one till all the neighbors came over to tell me that my direct neighbor likes to and makes it a habit to break into everyone’s home. No one had caught him but everyone knows its him (how im not sure).
We are all freaked out about it now, I feel like walking up to him and beating the crap out of him even tho he has not done anything illegal. He has taken our peace of mind. We don’t feel safe leaving the house alone. He is not a home invasion type from what it sounds, its all been when everyone was at work.

I need someone to help me with some kind of DIY home security. All of my windows and doors have decent locks. Windows have 3 locks each for example. I would like to avoid running a ton of wires tho. Anyone ever do a DIY security system? or have any insight on that i should do?
