Does anyone even pay attention anymore or is it just worn out from people ‘crying wolf"?

Or not as I think so under the "Data Protection" & "Confidentiality" Acts? I have appointment letter to show as proof u see!

Recently, an update gave my computer a virus and I was unable to detect it until my computer restarted. Afterwards, my computer could not get past the "Loading your personal settings…" pop up. I was able to get it back up after a while. All my documents were hidden and I eventually recovered them. This time around after putting up spyware and virus protection, I restarted my computer. Again! Everything is gone for sure this time, at least document wise. I still have some programs still floating around on the desktop. Other than that, everything is gone. What can I do? Months ago I had my dad take my computer to be fixed by his coworker. He was able to restore my computer completely but many of the factory settings have disappeared such as the complete restore options, new user accounts, etc.

When I accessed my computer the first time, it gave me a message that went something like "Your profile user is corrupt. Please contact your administrator."
I tried transferring all my information over to a new account, unfortunately the new account couldn’t even be opened due to the corrupted settings!

As of now, I know that 1) My user account is corrupt. 2) I cannot make a new user account and transfer my documents over, if I had any left. 3) I am in DIRE need of help.

Is there anyone who can help me? Thank you in advance..

Whenever I connect to (any site), my computer starts sending data. I do not know what or to where. I have Windows XP and IE6. I have Avira virus protection and have scanned my whole system without anything being reported. I am very careful about connecting to unknown sites and never open e:mails from unknown sources. I have some dud addresses in my address book and have not received any "undeliverable" e:mail notifications. Any idea what is happening or how I can find out what data is being sent and where it is being sent?

I have some things I want to erase so I can have more memory on it, so I have it on my pc to delete the files off of it, yet, there’s no option even to delete them nor does it work when I pres "DEL" on my keyboard… I don’t have it on "Lock"(the SD card).. I tried moving it to a different file off the SD card but it says "The disk is write-protected. Remove the write-protection or use another disk." I’m not sure what this even is…help?

why is everyone like oh ya..china will surpass america in like 10 years? that’s physically impossible. Sure, china’s economy is growing at an alarming rate, BUT they still have an unemloyment rate of over 20%. While eastern china may be well developed, the west still greatly lacks basic neccesties and is usually neglected by the government. Also, truth be told.. products that are labelled Made in China are not necessarily developed or designed in China. In fact, 60% of Chinese goods that are exported come from overseas-invested factories, according to Chinese customs data. The United States of America has the world’s strongest army and navy and has a projection force to anywhere on earth. Our military simply cannot be matched. China still doesn’t know how to live in a modern society and is still a socialist country. Because of china’s "growth-at-all-costs" ideaology, the enviorment is quickly deteriorating and fresh water is a very scarce commodity….

And, Jones admits that for the period for which there is uniform data, there’s no "statistically signficant" climate change??? Wow, you left-wingers are frauds. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2702839/no_global_warming_climategate_professor.html?cat=57

If phone lines and alarm wires were running into a house through a little metal pipe, then it would be a lot harder for a might-be burglar or other invader to cut those lines while trying to stop their victim(s) from calling the police or trying to stop their victims’ alarm systems from calling that dispatcher. That should be painfully obvious to the people installing the lines. Why don’t they do it that way, then?

It doesn’t matter who owns the wiring. What matters is who installs them, and how they do it. Who pays for the lines has nothing to do with whether or not the phone company could start off by installing the lines via conduit. The same with the alarm company.

And don’t be the guy who says something like, "Maybe if the burglar can’t cut your phone lines, he’ll just kill you instead," since that wouldn’t make sense, because then I would respond with this:

"Well, what if you’re NOT HOME for the burglar to kill? The alarm could still call the company if the wires were in a conduit that was hard to cut. And even then, sometimes burglars cut phone and/or alarm lines to make it easier for them TO come in and STILL try to kill you. But if they can’t cut the phone line first, then you might still get a 911 call out in time."

So, now, when you answer, consider the potential pitfalls I just steered you around. Okay?

Will you come back periodically to see if I have any follow-up for your answers, and then RErespond with follow-up to my follow-ups, please? Thanks, if so.
Okay, Hydroace and DT Warwick,

My real name’s Mike.

Actually, I’m surprised that they would just bury the wire without putting it in a pipe, anyway, just because of the tilling, etc. But I think it’s more than 2 inches deep where my parents live ( a lot of tilling got done there).

Isn’t that cable–from the box or pole–thicker than just the line that runs around in your house, and seriously, wouldn’t it be more than 2 inches deep (and if not, why not)?
Yeah, I’m not really talking about pipe all the way from the house to the phone box or pole (although that would be ideal). I just meant one little pipe that goes from a few feet below the surface of the ground (so a thief would have to dig around in the ground to find the bottom where the cable comes out), or from the top of the roof, into the house’s point of entry with an elbow that gets sealed in (at least in the case of the phone line). Why would one little piece of pipe just a few or several feet long (not many yards way out to the street) cost so "too much" for the phone company to decide to afford when they install it–just the one straight pipe a few feet or so long?
Yeah, Hydro, I’m talking about where the cable was buried at the lower depth because it was the original installation.

Why not just take it up a metal pipe from that depth where it meets the house, up to the box, and then lock the box? That little bit of pipe wouldn’t cost much, and it would slow a potential thief or other attacker down considerably, wouldn’t it?

My problems started with browser re-directs, then worsened to fake "antivirus" programs like "Data Protection" and "Windows Security Center" running fake scans on my computer and placing various files on my desktop. Thanks to some help from a couple forums I’ve killed off a large portion of the problems. Here is what remains to be fixed:

1) Right now, internet connection is disabled. What are the registry keys typically altered by this malware which render connection impossible?
2) Display reverted from Windows XP theme to Windows classic and I can’t change back…
3) When I run Malwarebytes, it detects infections but when it brings up a box telling me the scan is finished and I click OK with the intention of deleting those objects, the program terminates.

Any help with any of this would be greatly appreciated. I think most of it is altered registry.

Murphy’s Law - "whatever can go wrong, will go wrong" - or similar statements.

Is Murphy’s Law simply a restatement that usually no quality control whatsoever is taking place and therefore if fortuitously quality occurs, it is allowed to fall back to a low water mark.

Only exception would be if someone knew something about process control, as in the following “Usually in process control a percentage limit is the benchmark. So if the limit was set at 98.5% and output quality dropped below that then the alarm bells would start ringing. It would be Quality Management’s job to get the process back on track and continuously work on improvements to raise the bar higher than 98.5%. “(as stated in a Yahoo Answer)

I’ve read nearly all methods to protect oneself in an encounter with a cougar, and all the preventative measures.

My real question, since I have yet to find statistical data on a cougar’s hearing range in decibels, is…

Do you think a hand-held or pocket-sized device that emits a 125 decibel siren would scare away a mountain lion in a confrontation?

I am from Hawaii and moved to Oregon and love hiking, and though it is not safe, doing it much of the time by myself. I am not interested in violently harming a cougar (although making it deaf would be bad too). I used to skin dive and actively go spear fishing, so having encountered many sharks, i respect predators. would a siren work in this case?
yeah, i think its nice to have protection. i always felt comfy in the water, especially knowing i had a 5" titanium dive knife sheathed on my right leg.

I have a 1995 Honda Civic EX. Of course, I don’t think the car alarm came with the car though. Anyway, When I bought the car from a private party in May of this year, the alarm would go off when I pressed the activate key and would even go off when I would shut the trunk or the hood when the alarm was on.

Now, there is no sound coming out of the horn, the "bleep bleep" when I activate the alarm when I’m leaving the car and the alarm won’t go off if I activate it. Although, one of the features is that the key won’t turn ignition on all the way unless I unactivate the alarm. There’s no sound, just a blinking red light on the dash when it’s on.

I want the "bleep bleep" sound and the alarm of course to ward off car thieves. I have a killer sound system in there. I’ve never had a car alarm before with my previous truck and car before that, so that’s why I don’t know what to do. The guy I bought it from won’t answer my calls or return my voice mail messages. Please help.

Can somebody provide any hard evidence or data from a reliable source such as a government agency that monitors this type of activity?

Is there a report of some kind that specifically says how often this happens with specific percentages and a break-down by state?

Can somebody produce any evidence that illegal immigrants do *not* pay income taxes?

Can somebody provide irrefutable *evidence* that immigrants actually take more than they give?

Again, from a *reliable* source, not some anti-immigrant or pro-immigrant organization.

*provide real proof, not anecdotal evidence, here-say, hunches, opinions, inklings or suspicions.
So, from what I’m seeing, the answer is a huge "NO." There is NO evidence.

I was asked to provide evidence that illegal immigrants contribute to the U.S. economy and here it is:

3 sources enough? you need more?
The only info provided so far has not been from objective, impartial sources. some of the sources even admit to being anti-immigrant. I have yet to see anything from an organization that is neither for or agains immigrants.

They even take the time to pose right after the alarm goes off to make sure that we all know the perp was white. Why is that ?
This IS political…..The leftists keep playing the race card and push the double standards down our throats….Enough said.
dum- I see the same racisim against whites in my company`s "diversity" training. The whites are ALWAYS the bad guys.
PEOPLE- !!! It`s called being politically correct. It is wrong and un-American.

I hit the "nesting" stage a couple days ago and yesterday morning had a false alarm with my water breaking. Then after leaving the hospital my contractions started up again and were about 5 min apart for quite awhile and then they just stopped. I didn’t sleep well and have been nauseous and vomiting all day. I also had "the bloody show" this morning. I’m dilated to 3 centimeters and the doctor thinks I’ll have the baby by the end of the weekend. I’m not so sure though because the contractions have stopped. Any ideas on how long it will be until I have my son? Any suggestions on stopping the nausea? Crackers do not help and I am throwing up water at this point too.
BTW I am 38 weeks

We recently had a problem with smoke damage (my first experience ever). My husband feel asleep while making soup stock. I came home, lucky to find him alive. The smoke alarms went off, but the house was engulfed with smoke. The pot was totally black. The insurance company doesn’t think my cabinets need replaced. I do. There are stains underneath the cabinet nearest to the stove. Do I have to accept their "we’ll continue to clean them" policy? Can I fire the restoration company after they have been here a mere 4 days out of 15 days? They show up when they want to. What are my rights? My cabinet wasn’t like this before. Thanks.

the battery exploded with a loud "BANG!"!! out the bottom as i held it WITHIN 6 INCHES of a my home smoke alaram (8 years old).

I got tired of Vista, Wanted to go back to XP pro. I backed up everything to an external usb harddrive. I formatted the internal harddrive and installed windows Xp pro on it. Now i was gonna put the data i backed up back onto xp.. but to my great horror.. the Documents folder i backed up .. all the files in it dissapeared. Which doesnt makes sense because i checked like 10 times if all the data was there. The total size of my backup data folder was intially about 30 gigs. (21 gig was in my Document folder). Now the data folder is showing 8.2 gigs of data.. I played around with it. I clicked on disk cleanup.. and is saw that Under compressed old FILES it shows exactly 21.xxx gigs of data.. THATS MY MISSING DATA.. HOw the hell do I get back those compressed old files.. which i didnt compress

Any help is appreciated.
i didnt use any software. I copied and pasted it over. I dont see the "lost" files.. so how can i UNIZIP/UNRAR them??

I want to make a website, and make money for it. I understand there’s a way you can get payed for each "hit" that your website gets as in people going to it.

I might do a car trading website, or possibly a sales website for home security or what not.

We have gone from 5" floppy, 3.5" hard, zip drives, tape backup, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, mini-disc, flash drives … what’s next? How big will the storage be?
