Hi, For no reason today I caught a virus called "security tools warning". I looked on google to see what other people had done to get rid of it and followed the instructions from one of them. It seems to have worked but I’m worried that maybe part of it is still attached to other files on my computer/hiding somewhere and that it’ll come back to haunt me later. I restarted my computer and pressed F8 to get the "safe mode" and then found the file in App Data/Local. Some people mentioned a file with 8 digits but I only found a file that was called security tools. Does anyone know if I need to do anything else or look anywhere else for more parts of this virus? Also, could the virus or restarting in the safe mode mean that I have lost any of my work? Many thanks

I have read articles on how to get rid of the fake antivirus Security Suite, but I can’t run anything on it to do so. I can’t open Internet or firefox, even in safe mode with networking. Also, when I even try to START doing something on it, it will shut down not allowing me to do ANYTHING. Is there anything I can do to be able to use my computer again?

Okay, I have three programs that were installed on my laptop without my knowledge or consent and I would like them gone. All three are those fake anti-virus protection scams. One is called Anti-malware Doctor. The second is called Security Suite.

One doesn’t seem to even claim a name. I can not get rid of them through the control panel, in safe mode or otherwise. As you probably know, system restore is not possible in safe mode. In regular start-up, one or all three of these programs is blocking system restore. If I attempt to open it it is closed instantly.

I will not wipe my hard drive, I have very important information on it that I need saved.

The way I see it, I have three options. Fix it, don’t use it, use it anyway.

Not using it would inconvenience me. I need my own functioning computer for school and work. Using it anyway will eventually have undesirable consequences, I am sure, and with all the fucking windows popping up it is an entirely unpleasant experience. Fixing it would be optimal.

So, how do I remove these harmful programs and keep everything else?

Thank you so much.
Ran the malwarebyte in safe mode, found stuff, deleted it, it said restart, did (not in safe mode) problems persisted. Ran mwb again in safe mode, found stuff (only three that time) deleted it, it said restart, did (not in safe mode) problems persisted. Running it for a third time, so far has not resolved my issues.
the third time it found two things, deleted them, did not tell me to restart, remained in safe mode. I am now running it for a fourth time, and I intend to continue to do so until it finds nothing upon finishing a scan. After that, if problems still persist, I will try the task manager thing someone suggested.

However, even if that works, I will still have two out of three to get rid of. :/

Thanks for all of the suggestions, I will just keep moving down the list with trial and error until one catches them all. :) Got to the point where mwb in safe mode found nothing. Problems still persist, no improvement whatsoever. Tried the task manager thing. Right clicked on security suite, when to process, there was no option to locate file. Wtf now?

K9 Web protection on my laptop, When I turn on the computer, it says that it has stopped responding. I cannot uninstall it, I cannot install a new copy over it! It has a BEX error! How do I fix this? I tried the Data Execution prevention thing and it did not work. HELP!
SAFE MODE DOES NOT WORK EITHER! HELP! IT IS STUCK ON MY COMPUTER!
Just so you know, I fixed it.

Tried to go to safe mode and start there, but it won’t let me use my key board. keyboard works. also i saw the youtube video on how to delete it from "data applications" but, i don’t see a file with only 8 digets.

somebody in my house downloaded it, but it doesn’t protect you from anything! It puts viruses on your computer. Does anybody know how i can get rid of it without having to spend money? I downloaded SpyDoctor, but you have to pay to delete the threats from your computer. Very detailed instructions or a link will help me out a lot as I’m not very good with computers.
oh sorry, I said security check instead of Security Tool. It won’t let me run anything unless my computer is on safe mode.

Okay, I have done my fair share of googling and youtubing to remove this virus. And I have seen tons of ways to do it.

However, my problem is this. The virus is on my computer. It was popping up, and I used the task manager to temporarily stop it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AYR-7O4m8Y&feature=related
This is my guideline to remove it. But here’s the problem, I can’t find the random number folder, and the program isn’t showing up in my applications and data. Yes, I clicked to show hidden files and folders, I’ve done everything that can make the folder appear, but I can’t find it. It’s not there. Or if I try the other method where I try and mess with the icon of the program from my desktop, the icon isn’t there at all.

So what do I do? Do I continue with what the youtube video is stating? Or should I try safe mode? Please give some detailed answers. Thank you.

A Security Tool trojan has infected my computer so badly, it has rendered it basically useless. I am unable to download, let alone run any application to remove it. Also, I cannot access Safe Mode, any good suggestions?

This morning I started getting these pop-ups saying that my computer is infected and I should buy this security program called AV. I know this is a scam and have not bought anything, but this virus won’t let me get on the internet, the only page I can connect to is the AV page. I’ve tried to turn my computer on in safe mode with networking, but for some reason I cannot connect to the internet. I have no idea what to do, can anyone help me out?

i got the virus 3 days ago. on the first day, i went in safe mode and removed the virus using hijackthis and malwarebytes; anti-malware, and manually deleted all the registry keys, etc. the next day, i turn on my computer, the virus is back, i do the same to kill it. i also disabled system restore and enabled "showed hidden files" in folder options. but the same thing happened on the third day, and i removed the viruses manually (or so i thought). today, on the fourth day, when i run the anti virus programs, the viruses are not detected. i go in regedit, sure enough, the viruses are still lurking around. i followed the folder directory at where I found the virus in regedit, but when i look in (local settings\application data) it is hidden! am i missing something in my virus termination process? i followed the instructions on "av security suite removal guides" that i found on google. feedbacks from others indicate that the removal guide helped them, however, they did not work for me. please help me. i am desperate.

ok so yesterday this random program on my computer popped up and started a random virus scan…ive never seen it before. I looked it up its called "data protection" its a melicious program meant to fraud you for your money and send you fake virus alerts to con you to buy the software. I looked up the uninstall guides to this and they said that i would have to download a program called kaspersky to my computer and run it. i downloaded it but heres the catch…..everytime i try to load it another fake alert from the "data protection" program pops up then when i press ignore it automaticlly says that the kaspersky is not responding so it doesnt start. AHHHHHHHHH im going crazy. Another thing is that a pop up keeps showing up bout a half hour after every time i turn on my laptop saying "your device will automaticcly shut down on you in less than a minute" and it actually does shut my computer down….PLEASE everybody i need some serious help removing this disgusting, fraudulent software before it couldnt get any worse. for examply a broken laptop :/

Well thanx for the help any one provides,
Anthony
i also so tryed the bleeping website places idea with shutting down and loading a real anti malware program but it didnt load in safe mode and wen i click it in regular one of the data protection alerts pop up then it end the real anti malware program

I have a desktop computer what has a problem, when it boots up it comes up with options to start it in safe mode and with networking or command prompt. it tried all of them but when it gets to Windows xp loading screen it comes up with BSOD an then restarts automatically. I tried the windows recovery disc, I was wondering if I could get a new hard drive for my computer and attach it to the old one and backup all my data.
(it had a virus before this problem started, but I couldn’t get rid of the virus)

Hey, I currently have the Data Protection Virus (a program that installs itself and pretends to be an anti virus program). I have downloaded and installed malwarebytes, but it has blocked the program, it has also blocked task managers and will not allow me to start windows in safe mode, i tried to remove the regedit keys but it blocked that program to. HELP?
BTW, fuck the douchebag who programmed this

I have tried running the computer in safe mode using malwarebytes anti malware, ive tried using adaware, used Rkill before using malwarebytes, in both normal and safe mode, and everytime i run the scan it tells me some items could not be removed, so i restart the computer as the program instructs me to, but then once it reboots the virus starts back up again.

A program called ‘ data protection’ was automatically installed on my pc yesterday. And since then I have regular pop-ups such as ‘ Danger, harmful files detected on your computer’ and a couple of fake windows security alerts. I used MBAM, ran a full malware scan. It found over 300 infected files and succesfully removed all of them. However a couple of pop-ups were still appearing and now ‘data protection’ has re-installed itself :( What should I do? Thanks
I ran the scan in safe mode, and i followed these instructions: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-data-protection
and its still there

i removed it from add and remove programs, but it reinstalled it self. it even downloaded porn sites on my computer.

Active security installed itself on my computer without my permission?
what is it. how Do i remove it
i can’t download anything. it shuts up all my attempts to remove it, start my computer in safe mode, or even exit it. please help. i can’t open add or remove programs

i have to use my computer in safe mode because this Security Tool keeps popping up on the screen. i also cannot go on the internet in normal mode. i did not download this tool it just appeared. tell me what to do. thank you

My problem may be a little different… I was searching the web and someone it installed…

Well I am not dumb.. I know when stuff like that happens it’s a virus.. So after researching it is a melware program or spyware? Cannot remember.. anyways I was reading.. on how to remove it.. places wanted me to install other stuff. Well I did what all I remembered on how to remove viruses.. I did a system restore from two days ago. Well when I logged back on, I researched some more and on one of the similar problem to mine.. one of the answers were to NOT do a system restore. Well I did it before and the program appeared to be gone.. but stuff was starting not to work..

So I need some help! I tried going to safe mode…
and go to documents and settings>All users> application data..
That is where the program could have been found if I hadn’t done a system restore.
but I could not access documents and settings… because access was denied

Will someone please help me? The program appears to be gone.. but I think some files are infected I am running a scan right now with McAfee but if it does not work.. I’d like an alternative.

So please help! Let me know all you can offer… I have SO many pictures on here of my photography and graphics arts.. not to mention I share this computer with the family.
Again.. but the PROGRAM IS NO LONGER THERE. It does not show up.. since I did system restore.

I would like to know what the problem is with both Nero and DVD Shrink on my computer. The problem has been going on for about 1 month. I have tried every possible action from deleting and re-installing Nero and DVD Shrink. The disc always seems to stop at the 98-99% point but it still plays back perfectly. The problem I have is that I burn my data using a re-writable DVD in order to avoid stuffing up DVD’s. I have tried reducing the burning speed and even downgraded from Nero 7 to Nero 6. I rip my DVD’s using RipIt4me and it’s fine. It’s just when I either want to burn the final product through DVD Shrink or copy a DVD using Nero, it tells me their is an error and burn process failed.

However I tried burning my same projects with DVDFab Platinum and they burnt fine with no errors, but I like using Nero because I’m used to it.

I have included the reports that come when a burn process fails. Also since this burning failed thing first occurred, my computer has frozen like 4 times and this blue screen comes up with white writing and this is what it states:

‘A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

DRIVER_TRQL_NOT_LESS_OR EQUAL

If this is the first time you have seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If this is a new installation, ask your hardware or software manufacturer for any Windows updates you may need.

If the problem continues, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Start Options and then select Safe Mode.

it is less thank 4.7G, thinking about it I had my anti-virus upgraded around the same time I noticed this.

By the way what is in-cache and would the sound/video card be covered by warranty because my computer is still under warranty

I’ve already tried this
(1). Start your PC in SAFE MODE..(2) Open "C:\WINDOWS\Internet Logs" folder…(3) Delete *.RDB files viz BACKUP.RDB, IAMDB.RDB …(4) Restart in normal mode
and it didn’t work, is there any other way?
