Hello!
recently i was looking around for different security solution for my home. i’m looking for a wireless solution because i rent the place. what i would need to to do is basically sms (text) me when someone enters my apartment, siren is optional but not that important, computer easy management would also be nice. all the other bells and whistles are always welcome but basically i just need the sms feature and be able to manage it via computer.
what are the options out there?
Thank you!

I’ve read nearly all methods to protect oneself in an encounter with a cougar, and all the preventative measures.

My real question, since I have yet to find statistical data on a cougar’s hearing range in decibels, is…

Do you think a hand-held or pocket-sized device that emits a 125 decibel siren would scare away a mountain lion in a confrontation?

I am from Hawaii and moved to Oregon and love hiking, and though it is not safe, doing it much of the time by myself. I am not interested in violently harming a cougar (although making it deaf would be bad too). I used to skin dive and actively go spear fishing, so having encountered many sharks, i respect predators. would a siren work in this case?
yeah, i think its nice to have protection. i always felt comfy in the water, especially knowing i had a 5" titanium dive knife sheathed on my right leg.

I live upstairs and my mother, 91, downstairs, She does not want a dial out type device — she wants a simple button device she can hang around her neck and press it if she needs help. The button would activate some sort of alarm or siren upstairs as I wouldn’t necessarily be able to har her directly. I have a home office and am here 99% of the time so her being able to contact an outside service is of little interest to her, Does anyone know of a simple in home point-to-point system as described? Thanks.

I have a 2005 jeep grand cherokee. and an APS-996A alarm by prestige. i want the siren and the cars horn to go off at the same time. can anyone tell me how to do that?

please be specific with parts and diagrams if possible…
thanks

My dad just had a heart attack and he won’t be home for a few days. They are keeping him longer because he is not recovering to well.

I was wondering how I can make things easier for him when he comes home.

His mom is a retired nurse so she have giving me basics of how is diet may consist of.

My first step was to buy bananas so that when he does come home they will be ripe and ready for him. Also, I bought him an emergency life gear hand radio. That is because it have an alarm on it so that if he was having problems and if my mom or my brother or I is outside, or doing the laundry or doing the dishes, he can press the emergency siren for just in case he needs anything.

Beside that what else can I do to make him feel comfortable once he is released to the hospital?

Thanks for reading and answering the question.
Oh no, it’s just not me. My mom and my brother is going to help out too.

But right now my mom and my brother is still in shock that they can’t think straight right now.

Hello,

My husband and I are looking at buying our first home. Our town is actually somewhat segregated (financially, not racially). There’s the A section of town, with all the reeeeeally expensive houses. The B section of town, with more "family" homes that are <20 yrs old. The C section of town, where there are family homes, but they’re all from the 1950’s- 1970’s. And then the D part of town which is pretty ghetto and dangerous.

All of the houses in our price range are in the C part of town (1950’s- 70’s homes). Most of the have been/are being remodeled to make the neighborhoods more appealing to new buyers. But some of these houses are kind of close to downtown, which scares me to death. I know someone could break into any house, anywhere, but we’re currently renting an apartment in the nicer part of town and I "feel" really safe there.

All of the houses we’ve been looking at buying are 900- 1,100 sq ft. I know it’s tiny, but it’s our first house, so it’s not supposed to be a mansion. We don’t need a system that will dial 911 for us or anything like that. But it would be nice to have a loud siren in the case of a perimeter breech. We can call 911 on our own…. =)

Given that information, which home security system would be the best? Thanks!

Suggestions? Everything else on the alarm works, keyless entry, LED status and everything.
The alarm siren is constantly going off when its connected. The 1.3v signal is just enough to make it go off, but not very loud. Thanks

We just bought a Honda Accord that was used as an undercover unit. The police lights are hidden inside the head and tail lights. There’s also what we think is a siren. Could we use the equiptment for a car alarm?
I’m thinking not likely, but man that would be cool. We recently had our other car broken into and I know those thugs would be gone with the quickness if when the car alarm went off, it was those side lights and a very load siren.

I have a Nissan and when i went to church left my car at the parking lot someone broke in by braking the window. I thought that all the cars that you buy have an alarm system, but, how come the alarm never went off? I my have the car remote and it has that button to make the siren go off. So i thought that mean that the car has an alarm, so i didn’t worry till know. So was it some professional that disabled the alarm or what happened? So i want to know what to look in my car and how to know that i have a good alarm system(Like if it has a blinking light or a sticker) or what to ask the mechanic what to put in or to do or how to make sure it don’t happen again?

my neighbors are getting fustrated from when i come home from work late, the chirping is a little bit of an annoyance, all i want the car to do is flash the lights. And also, how do you change the alarm siren, i took it in to get the passive arming turned on, and now the alarm sound is not the same and not great! can some one help me?

I am trying to put a siren wire from the wall to a battery area but I can’t make any holes with a drill. My drill is 500 rpm. do I need more rpm or something special bit?

plz recommend a tool that I need to acquire

95 honda accord that at one time had an aftermarket alarm installed into it. the alarm was an entry level viper installed around 2000-2001. The keypad has been gone for a couple of years but somehow the alarm has been set. now it goes off any time i shut the door to the car to get in. i can still start and drive the car with the alarm going off but the lights flash and the siren sounds. how do i make it stop?
i should also mention that my car is a piece of junk and i am not willing to spend any money on taking it to a shop for this. i am looking for somebody who can tell me what i need to do to get the alarm our of my car by myself.

the actual siren doesn’t work but the alarm works. do i need a new siren or is there a fuse in the siren i can change? or would it be the wiring?

i’ve heard of the immobiliser, remote start and the usual siren. what else is available?

Buying first house. Our price range is getting us a beautiful house that is kind of near the scary, ghetto part of town. We’d like to get some kind of security system even if it is just an annoying siren that would scare away an intruder. The house we’re interested in is 1,057 sq ft all on one floor. There is a front door & a back door that goes out onto the deck. There are 6 windows. Can anyone share their home security stories with me? And if you could tell me how much yours is a month and all, that could be great!

I posted this question last night and only got one answer. Sorry if my questions are getting on your nerves (haha… I’ve posted a lot since yesterday).

Here’s the sex offender list near the house: http://familywatchdog.us/ShowMap.asp?frm=0 It seems like a lot, but I’m from Baltimore, so it’s not 1/7th as bad as it was up there. it’s the nicest home/area we can afford.
The sex offender thing didn’t work… Oh well.
Only an idiot would have the "nothing bad will ever happen to me attitude". I’m not scared. But on the other hand, I know something could happen (no matter where I live). We live in an apartment now & I’m used to having neighbors who watch out for each other (and who would try to rob an apartment? lol) My parents’ house in a nice, PA suburb was broken into when I was 12 and my college dorm was as well. So the thought is always with me.

I’m trying to figure out what kind of car makes this alarm sound. It was more popular a few years ago, and there was even a commercial where the offending car got smashed. The alarm cycles through about 6 or 7 different sounds(Beep, Beep, Siren, High/low, whoop whoop, Honk Honk).

What I want to know is, what kind of car? and would really like a sound clip.

What is the best Wireless Home Security Monitoring System w/ siren… one that would monitor all windows & doors including Garage. I’ve seen ads for ADT, Brinks, GE. Looking for the best system, and ease of installation. (Not sure an installer is necessary or if do it yourselves are just as good.)

I’ve never really shopped around for a car alarm before, but my factory key fob broke and the alarm is outdated, I want to get one with 2 way paging. I’ve seen pretty decent looking ones on E-bay like autopage, just looking for any recommendations what might be the best alarm I can find for about 0 (either in person or online, ebay, etc)

I don’t need anything too fancy, mainly just a well functioning 2 way pager, ignition kill, and I’d like it to be compatible with a 2 stage proximity sensor and pain siren if I decide to add those in the future. (I’d like to have the option to make the proximity sensor chirp only, and not actually set off the alarm)

One other thing that would be very nice is if I can choose between different siren tones rather than one genaric one.

Any suggestions?
