Recently when I checked my Norton 360 History Log, I found that it was blocking Conhost.exe from accessing C:\Program Files (x86)\Norton Online\AddOns\Norton Safety Minder\Engine.0.0.48\TampMon.exe.
I was getting an alert every 4-5 minutes of my computer’s waking hours of this same occurrence since July 2nd of this year (and still am). The actor and target are the same each time.
I’ve googled this and I’ve read several posts on the Symantec forums. Some say that these are just other programs interfering with Norton Product Tamper Protection, others have found trojans/other malware on their systems.
What could this be?

I’ve been using Norton System works for many years now and it has done a decent job at protecting many of my computes. I also use Zone Alarm Pro for my software firewall. That’s a great product also.

However, recently Norton System Works has been giving me errors saying my Zone Alarm Pro is not working. But, Zone Alarm is working fine. I’ve contact Symantec’s support and I’m not happy with their solutions. Norton gives me these big red alert boxes and X’s that are always displayed if it ’seemingly’ finds a problem with other software it monitors.

I’m getting a bit fed-up with Norton. It’s a resource hog, red errors always being displayed, very poor technical support too, unless I pay for it. On the other hand, Zone Alarm Security Suite now includes anti-virus protection, plus a great firewall.

Should I dump Norton? Zone Alarm Internet Suite also allows you to use their program on up to 3 separate computers! I hate to leave Norton, but maybe it’s time to.
Forgive my spelling errors. I noticed I cannot edit my question once I submit it.

I’m trying to convence my boss to allow us to move from NTBackup to a 3rd party software backup program, such as Symantec BackupExec. I’ve been told we are way in the past by using NTBackup, but no one ever explained why. Can someone help me understand why a 3rd party backup programs is so much more robust than NTBackup?
P.S. This is a small business with less than 50 employees, but plenty of data to backup.

We have been having issues with SWS for quite some time now. We are running it on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2. It seems as though once a week we are having to restart SWS Service and when we stop the service it states, "Could not stop the symantec web security service on local computer error 1067: the process terminated". So it appears it has already stopped but not showing stopped within the status colum of the Services window. We then start the service without any errors and it works fine. …well, for a few days. There are multiple instances of the following event within Event Viewer:
Event Type:Error
Event Source:SWS
Event Category:None
Event ID:107
Date:6/17/2009
Time:4:13:56 PM
User:N/A
Computer:ABLCSEC
Description:
The description for Event ID ( 107 ) in Source ( SWS ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: Error: File mem://10005983.gzip open failed, error 22..
Data:
0000: 16 00 00 00 ….

…where the "Error: File mem://10000136.gzip", ranges to "Error: File mem://10002CB0.gzip", but that is the only thing that changes within the Event Properties.

I have tried searching on Symantec’s site and on multiple blogs, but really have been unsuccessful at finding anything.

I made the switch from norton to zone alarm security suite yesterday and i’ve experienced 2 blue screens since. my zone alarm is compatible with my vista so i don’t know what’s wrong. should i go back to norton?
I didn;t remove Live Update because it said it shouldn’t be removed while there’s still other symantec programs in use. i’m not sure what these programs are, so i’m really confused. should i just uninstall zone alarm, reinstall norton, and see if there’s any more blue screens?

I formatted my hard drive yesterday and reinstalled NIS 2010 and I utilize the identity safe (which saves my logins and passswords). I backed up the information before I reformatted. Now that I am trying to import the data I am unable. It keeps asking me to create a new profile. I went to the Symantec site and followed all there instructions but no where does it say under configure does it say restore identuity safe data.

Any ideas??

I have access to several different anti-virus programs, two which are usually paid for, but i can get free through my ISP or college. So I would just like to get some of you opinions as to which is the best. The programs are:

1. F-Secure (renamed Centurylink Internet Security for ISP but powered by F-Secure)
2. Symantec Endpoint Protection (from my college’s website- provided free for student to install on
one computer.)
3. Microsoft Security Essentials (free from Microsoft’s Website).

Please list these 1-3 in the order you think is best. If you suggest another program please add it as needed.

P.S. I also occationally run scans with Malwarebytes. So this does not need to be suggested.

I have Symantec Norton Security right now, but it keeps telling me i need to buy it again. It really didn’t work well for my computer. The people who work my wireless internet said that the system I have is just about the worst one. So… does anyone know a software I can download for free that’ll clean up my computer? fix it ect. ect. ect.

Thanks so much! (:

I do online gaming and also am active in the forums for that game. We get "keyloggers" a lot who will post fake links to grab your password and hack your account.

I’m petrified this will happen to me (on accident of course).

I have a Mac and was considering getting Norton but have no idea which version to get. I would love the All-in-One package but for some reason they only make it for operating systems older than the one I am running.

Here is what I am looking at:
http://www.symantec.com/norton/products/overview.jsp?pcid=ma&pvid=nav11mac

My option are either:

#1:
* Blocks spyware
* Stops viruses
* Detects emerging threats without signatures

-OR-

#2:
* Fake Web site blocking-antiphishing
* Web site authentication
* Confidential data protection
* Critical file protection

I’ve been told keyloggers write Viruses specifically which makes me want the first but the fact I’m trying to protect a password makes me want the second!

Which do I need?
Help!
I wasn’t able to find a Mac version of any of the programs suggested.

Ideas?

I recently bought a new computer after my old one crashed and burned - I can’t even get it to boot any more. The store I bought the new one at transferred all my data (NOT a backup, just a transfer) to the new drive and now I’m trying to figure out where the data from my old Identity Safe is. Symantec tells me the only way to get it is to run a backup on the old machine and otherwise I’m SOL. I’m pretty sure the data *is* here, I just need to get it and put it where NIS can find it. Any suggestions?

We have a small office 5 workstations and a server running SBS 2003. We currently have Symantec end-point. I find it less than convincing to continue to pay around 0 per year. What other solutions are out there that are recommended?

last year i got a nasty spyware infection so i went out and bought Norton 360 ( big mistake, i think it sucks ) so i called the ” Symantec ” customer support line and told them my problem, they asked for email address and said they would ” take control of my computer ” and remove the infection manually, i declined it after they said would cost to do it.
but it got me to thinking…..
if an absolute computer expert has my email address can they take charge of my pc just like that?
kinda frightening to say the least, how can just that little bit of info allow someone to bypass all of my security measures?
info please!

My symantec antivirus security is out of date and i try to use live update and it says that it can’t establish a connection even though my internet is working fine. Worse part is that I think I have some spyware or malware because my computer is running very slow and random pop-ups occur a lot without me even being on a page with pop ups. Please help!!!

I think I uploaded it accidentally, and now it says my computer is infected, and to install some stuff that I definitely am NOT going to install.

I have Symantec Endpoint Protection, and Norton PC Checkup, and Windows Defender. Are any of those going to do the job??

If not, can I download something for free?

I am freaking out, so replies are very, very welcome!

Thank you!
