We recently had digital phone hooked up. We had cable for the computer and tv for years. I heard great things about digital phone, which, eh, it’s ok. Clarity is not so great, even with a 5.8MH phone which is brand new.
That’s not my problem though.
We have a security system for our home, and that was installed 12yrs ago and is hooked up to the telephone line.
Apparently when cable goes out for just a second, our alarm sounds. It happened last night at 2am.
One box (alarm system) is located in my son’s closet which is locked and I do not have a key. I would assume that is where the hook up is for the telephone cable.
Second box is in my other son’s room, which is the electrical supply.
The company that installed the system is no longer in business.
My question is:
How do I get into the metal 20" X 15" box to disconnect the telephone line and which line is it , and how to do this without interupting the normal functions of alarm. It is not monitored.

Do they monitor using your telephone line? Internet? Satellite?
so if a burgler disconnected the phone line the company wouldn't know there is an intruder?

I may be leaving my house to another state for a few months unattended. Before I bought my house it was broken into and the pipes were stolen and such. I am also leaving my car so many not even know I am gone and there area isnt the greatest. I have some valuables in the house. So what do you think about the situation and what I should do?

I am looking into getting my own security system but if it went off I wouldn't be able to turn it off and such or monitor it from another state I do not think. I could probably get a friend in the city of the house to deal with it but is there someway that I could find out because I dont really want to notify my neighbors since I dont know if I can trust them?

So I think maybe getting a security company would be the best idea. I think a motion detecter in the basement and living room should suffice as it is a 3 story house with a garage door to the basement. Or just some alarms on 3-4 doors. I don't think that is all that much?

What company is the best place to go to get this? Will they monitor it and turn it off and back of if it goes off and I am not around to deal with it? Are there smaller companies that are a lot cheaper then some of the big ones that are just as good? How much a month and for installation and I figure you dont get to own the equipment? Do they make you sign long term contracts or get to your house speedily or depends on your area? Do they have to use a telephone line because I don't use a landline and once I leave I will be turning off my cable internet?

What is the point of having a home security alarm system, all a thief would have to do is cut the outside telephone line and than when it triggers the alarm company would not get notified, and no police would respond.
