I formatted my mother’s hard drive and reinstalled a fresh Windows XP for her. But I lost track and totally forgot to backup her files. Are those files still recoverable even tho I have formatted her hard drive?

I’ve been using AVG Free for over a year. I recently updated to version 9. It scans every day. All seems well. In the last two days, in the last 5 times of opening my computer I immediately see an urgent message from the ’security center’, that I do not have virus protection and have 42 threats, 3 critical. I try to remove them and can only do it if I buy the program. No, thanks. I check AVG. It tells me all is well. One security shield on the tool bar shows a white cross on red. Next to it is a blue and grey security shield. If I go to the security shield via the control panel all is well. I tried to remove this ‘Security Center’ program but even tho it says it is a trial program is says it is not removable. What’s going on? Suppossedly my internet provider, Cox Cable also has virus protection, Norton. So I don’t know what or which program to believe.

For 1 week I was spotting very lightly or nothing at all..so I took a pregnancy test at home..positive..next day..another one…positive..2 days after I went to a free clinic and they said I wasn’t based on the urine test, so they referred me to another place…to get my blood tested…they didn’t do it tho…they just gave me another urine..negative again…but…very faint line showed up on the positive…2 weeks straight I’ve just been spotting…but before I went to the doctors..I was drinking alot of water…could that have diluted my hormones? And also I started bleeding more than usual and had big blood clots…is this a miscarriage? I don’t have that kind of money to go everywhere to find out what is goin on? Do you? This is very frustrating for me & sad…I was not expecting to have a baby and when i accepted it I was so excited…now that this happen I am confused…

its not factory installed and never had a problem before. it always beeped twice when it was unlocked and beep once when it was locked. the beep sound is not the horn tho. help!
why did it stop beeping??
wow, are there any intelligent people who knows anything about cars?? if u dont then dont answer stupid

To start out let me say, i’m very technically inclined.
I just moved into a new house in a nice neighborhood. Well i thought it was a good one till all the neighbors came over to tell me that my direct neighbor likes to and makes it a habit to break into everyone’s home. No one had caught him but everyone knows its him (how im not sure).
We are all freaked out about it now, I feel like walking up to him and beating the crap out of him even tho he has not done anything illegal. He has taken our peace of mind. We don’t feel safe leaving the house alone. He is not a home invasion type from what it sounds, its all been when everyone was at work.

I need someone to help me with some kind of DIY home security. All of my windows and doors have decent locks. Windows have 3 locks each for example. I would like to avoid running a ton of wires tho. Anyone ever do a DIY security system? or have any insight on that i should do?

Covering her cage helps, but I can't keep her under a blanket forever. She seems to think it is the greatest sound ever and she even dances a little while she does it. If it wasn't so gawd-awful annoying, it might even be cute. Help!!!!!
Moving the cage doesn't help. She is LOUD and even when she is 2-floors away the alarm sound is disruptive (especially at night). At first I tried telling her, "stop that." Now she just says "stop that" at the end of every "alarm" so having new things to say doesn't seem to solve the problem either. She has a huge vocabulary and she seems to learn new stuff to say every day. I do think that she is trying to get attention with her crooning, but she is out of her cage and handled OFTEN, so I can't imagine she is lacking for attention. Maybe I should try really hard to ignore her when she makes that sound? It's not easy though. The other problem is that she is so good at making this sound that I'm never sure if it's her or the actual alarm. I spend lots of my day smelling for smoke and pulling out the fire extinguisher. You folks are right tho…it is pretty funny.
It's not like I turn on the smoke alarm every day for kicks. And I don't burn every meal I cook. The alarm has only gone off ONE TIME since we got her over a year ago. That's all it's taken for her to learn this sound. Please don't insinuate that I've done something irresponsible or wrong by allowing my smoke alarm to do it's job.

Thanks to the folks who have had suggestions rather than criticism!
