I just found out that i might get tp’d tonight and I was hoping to get a camera to catch them!

Anything i can do? I have a video camera… and that’s it.. :/

I have a LED Infrared camera that I want to take out of my house. I want to know if there is a portable box or something I can hook it up to that will record what the camera takes in.

Sorry it’s kind of long , my english isn’t very good and i want to describe the whole thing as completely as possible.

today i went to kohl’s at mall , when i walk out of kohl’s with another guy i don’t know ( i mean i thought i was walking out by myself ,but then i found out there’s someone who walk out with me the same time),the alarm rang .

Then the guy who stand next to me smiled at me , and he went to the cashier ( he have brought something from kohl’s i think , he have a shopping bag with him) and took out the items from the bag and show off the receipt , then he walks out with the bag again .
I think the alarm also rang when he steps out , i can’t remember.
i assume If he steals something , then he can’t walk out so easily .
But i didn’t steal anything and i didn’t buy anything either expect i’m wearing a dress i brought from kohl’s a long time ago , but i already cut off the tag when i brought it home .

then i stood there and see if the cashier and the mature lady(maybe she’s a manager) who stand next to her will asked me to go to them and let them check my purse , but they didn’t waved at me or come to me or anything , so i just go out , but when i go out , the alarm rang again ! - _-’
so i stood there and giving sign like what’s happening ? what’s wrong with the alarm ? also i was checking if they still need to asked me to go to them , but again , they didn’t call me or anything , so i just leave.
n they didn’t run to me when i leave either , i didn’t walk too fast.

so what i’m asking is , will they think i steal something and leave without letting them to check my purse ? I’m really worry that they’ll accuse me of robbery or something , there’s also a video camera that record my face .

I also went back to kohl’s after 3 hour later , i was thinking , if they really think i’ve done something , they’ll catch me when i walk in to kohl’s , but nobody come out to talk to me and when i leave the store ,the alarm didn’t rang anymore .( good ! why does it have to rang earlier ?- _-’

Mary, r u SURE that it’s ok and i shouldn’t be worry about it ?

if i contact the customer service, i was going to asked them if they think i steal something and will accuse me of robbery cus i just walk away , so i think they will at least answer my question .
But maybe i should just forget it ,right ? i told my mom about it ,too , and she said there’s nothing to worry about it , since they didn’t come to me or call me .( although the guy who stand next to me just walk to them without them calling him .)

i need to watch watch movies which are about surveillance. not surveillance via video camera, but by other means too e.g. computers, credit cards, spying etc. Can some please reccomend any movies (not really old ones) that i should watch. Many thanks

I really don’t want a video surveillance system although I can well afford it.

I just want a deterrent for an average "joe" burglar who will see the camera and say, "I’ll move on to a safer house"

I’m thinking of getting one that’s pretty authentic looking and in fact can house a hidden real camera inside if I decide to get a real one.

What do you think. I’m not a criminal, but if I saw a video camera, I would be careful whether if I thought it was real or not.

I suspect some is stealing stuff from my desk. Is there any software that enables me to use my webcam as a surveillance video camera? Possibly motion activated? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a video camera. I can hook it up to the pc. I was thinking of putting it inside but facing the door so I could see who is knocking..etc. Probably just want it to stream and not save the file. Thanks.
Also, it would be nice if I could have it hooked up to my desktop and be able to see it on my laptop. Is there anything that is FREE that I can use for doing that? I know how to network computers but I’m not sure how I could get the video with out saving it.. Otherwise how could I see it streaming on the laptop?

I see you can buy a DVR box to hook up with the video camera. But if you already have a DVR box from Verizon can you just use that? Or does the DVR box have to be specifically for the security camera?

I bought 3 1 TB HDs to do RAID 5, because I was told it will be a good combination of speed improvement and data loss security- however, now that I'm installing it, I think I have been given incorrect information. Must sources online say RAID 5 is incredibly slow.

Raid 1+0 sounds like the best speed/data loss security combination, but it requires me to purchase another 1 TB disk, which isn't overly cheap. I was thinking I'd get a very similar effect by putting two of them on a RAID 0 array (for speed), and then just having windows run backups frequently on the 3rd 1 TB disk.

So given my situation, should I invest in RAID 10? Stick with RAID 5? try RAID 0 + Frequent backups? or Just go with RAID 1 for security and give up the speed?
I'm using my computer mainly as a general PC. I run a lot of peripherals (3 printers, vinyl cutter, 3 monitors, etc.) I do a lot of video rendering and editing (about 15-20 hours a week), and recently upgraded to a full HD video camera (bigger file sizes). I do sound editing and a lot of graphics/web work, database work, etc.

The PC it is on is a i7 920 @2.9 GHZ, 12GB ram, dual 512 MB Vid cards (to be upgraded at some point)

On my old PC I used to get HD hangups, so I was recommended to get a 10k rpm HD. However, I was also told a cheaper option was RAID 5 w/7200 RPM 32 MB drives- I'm really questioning that advice.

I’ve been reading the “Rain” series of contemporary fiction novels, and Rain (an assassin) has a detector he keeps in his pocket that “detects” some kind of wave length (side-band? or similar I think it was called) that video camera’s produce. The detector also detects audio surveillance. The author never differentiates between wireless and hard-wired devices, this little thing picks up everything within about 10 meters or so if I recall correctly.

I’m just wondering if that is actually possible or if it is literary license. If it is possible, how?
