I just want to use it to back up my personal data files, movies, photos and music. Total storage for all of this (although it’s growing all the time) is about 800MB right now. I’ve considered just using CD’s, but my software (Roxio) keeps becoming incompatible with Windows upgrades and it’s getting frustrating….not to mention time-consuming. I’ve also considered using USB flash drive(s) or buying an external hard drive. Have you had any personal experience with this? Do you have any suggestions about this? Thanks!

Additional Question: Will this laptop be capable of downgrading to windows xp, home edition?
I have Windows XP Home Edition, recently installed McAfee Security & AntiVirus, ran it with disk cleanup & defrag. Ever since, my rich text files (.rtf) are unreadable - all of the data is now in what looks like unicode (strange symbols instead of the letters of the alphabet). 4 years of research work down the drain unless it can be fixed. Some techie please help???
My technical operator formatted my system as my system got corrupted and he installed Windows XP home edition operating system, so is there any possibility to get my data back from my hard disk as there was some important data…..
