Which career is the best (and pays the best) in IT?
I am looking for a career working with computers and that would help me get a telecommuting position and also make more money than I am currently as a teacher, but i know I may have to return to school. Which career is the best bet in IT? Here are the choices: Information Systems Security, Data Communication Systems Technology, Software Engineering Technology, IT Computer Network Systems, IT - Software Applications & Programming, IT - Web Development. If there is something not on this list you’d like to suggest, feel free to add it and describe it. Thanks for your serious and helpful replies.

Hi shayeshayeshaye,
IT is a great field to dive into. I started out with a career in Physical Therapy, then broke into the IT field because of the opportunity to learn new technical skills and a variety emerging technology. I’ve been in IT for over 8yrs now and have never looked back.
My advice would be to learn as much as possible from each branch of IT, from hardware, networking, IT security and web development. You may want to try exploring some volunteering opportunities to get your feet wet in the field. It could be at a school, church, or any other place. You can use that as experience and start building your resume. An IT degree or certificate without hands on experience will make it difficult for you to find a job.
Overall, Experience is key to be considered for any IT job.
CNN.com Money Magazine recently posted a list of the best jobs, salary and job market information. There are about 4 IT positions in the top ten. The number one IT job is a Systems Engineer. Check out the link below for more info:

Hope that helps.
I wish you all the best.
