Why do people do the horn honk that assures the car alarm is active?
when its totally unnecessary. You can hear your car lock when you press the button, so whats the point of having it do a brief horn honk? Is is so that everyone else can hear it, and notice that (wow) you have a car alarm??

It’s the way the system is designed. Some "chirp" when set, some use the horn. Not everyone is close enough to actually hear the doors lock. Complaints can be directed to the manufacturer of the alarm, not the person using it.
In my vehicle, the "horn honk" is totally automatic and sets the alarm system - merely locking the door with one key punch does not set the alarm, it simply locks the doors.
my boyfriend always sets his alarm off when there is a group of people around. people do this because they want others around them to know your truck is alarmed and protected so dont even try it.
In even slightly noisy environments or a few yards away from the car you cannot hear the locks actuate, so you get into the habit of pressing until you hear the honk. It has to do with the more audible signal.
Also the first answer is right. In some cases the alarm is not set until you hear the chirp.
You are over analyzing the action of others, and attaching to much meaning to a habitual action. Most don’t give a crap if you know they have an alarm or not.
Then again, like in Alicia’s bf’s case, everything is apparently about him, so any means to grab attention.
I hate that. My Honda has a door lock / alarm that blinks the lights the first time the remote is pressed, and the horn sounds the second time. Only someone who is completely clueless needs to disturb the peace with the horn. I wish there was a way to disable the horn because there is absolutely no reason for it. I never use the horn, I am smart enough to listen for the door locks and watch the lights.
It’s more about knowing that the car actually locked then it is about wanting to make noise. Usually when you park your car and get out, you hit the button as you are walking away, and by the time you hit the button you might be too far to hear the locks click.
My sister drives a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix. When she first got the car, she got one key fob with it. And low and behold the connections were bad on the key fob meaning that sometimes when she would push the button, it didn’t do anything. So she would push the button until she heard the honk so she knew for a fact that her car was locked.
When the car honks, it has nothing to do with wanting to make a ton of noise and annoy people, its about people being assured that their car is safely locked and secure. If you have a problem with it buy a pair of ear plugs.
